The Power of Positive Words

Positive words have the power to inspire, heal, and transform. Negative words also have the power to hurt, both ourselves or when directed at the ones we love. It’s so important to listen to the words you use for yourself and the ones that are used toward others. You are the embodiment of your words, and using positive affirmations can be a powerful tool to influence your life.

For example, if you or someone in your life is constantly talking about misery and despair, then it’s most likely that your life – or theirs – is a reflection of what’s being said. We all know people who are constantly negative, and when you spend time with them, it’s more than likely that you’ll come away feeling exhausted because they’re sapping your precious energy, whether you realize it or not.

Affirmations can be powerful whether they’re positive or negative. If children are told often enough that they’re dumb, useless, or stupid, then those children might eventually grow up believing they are just that! In some cases, this can have damaging long-term effects, and I’ve met people through my work who suffer from the effects of such negative affirmations and even adopt the characteristics of those negative affirmations.

When people say unfavorable things about themselves, they don’t seem to realize that just by continually thinking and voicing them, they can manifest negative personality traits.

I’m sure that you’ve heard people assert: I am a loser, I am so stupid or I am trouble. The use of the very words “I am” is very powerful, as it encompasses your whole being, everything that you are. Equally, these can be magic words if you just learn to watch the other ones you combine with them, and understand the proper way affirmations should work and the power that they hold.

John’s Lesson

Affirmations can be used in all area of your life, and here are a few pointers to get you started on your way to have the life you want and deserve:

Always use the first person when stating positive affirmations. For example: “I am healthy,”  “I am calm and balanced,”  “I am beautiful, and I am now following my soul’s guidance.” Other great phrases to try: “I attract,”  “I choose,” and “I have.”

Use affirmations in the present tense, in the here and now. For example, say: “I now attract the perfect relationship into my life” instead of saying: “I will have a good relationship someday. By saying it that way, you’re signaling to the Universe that it’s not important right now to have a positive relationship, but rather, sometime in the future.

If you have a specific need, then the more detailed and specific you can be – the better the results. If you’re affirming a new relationship, list the qualities and affirm what you want. For example: “I am worthy of love and attracting the perfect partner for my highest good.” If you say: “I am attracting a relationship” then it’s likely that you’ll get one, but it may not be exactly what you’re looking for. If you want money, then be specific and say: “Abundance is all around me and I now attract (said amount) to me quickly.”

Repeat affirmations frequently, 10 or 15 times in a row, whether you speak or write them out. Do this once in the morning and again in the evening. The more you say and believe them, the more power you’re giving them, and the better chance of your manifesting them. You may even want to combine your affirmations with a visualization to create a more positive effect.

Trying journaling your affirmations, or use Post-it Notes and stick them where you can see them: on your computer, your bathroom mirror, the kitchen cabinets, on the nightstand by your bed, or even on the visor in your vehicle.

Say your affirmations often, especially if you need a boost during the day, and say them again before heading to bed, so that you end your day on a positive note. If you believe that having what you want is in fact possible, you are closer to acknowledging that the spirit force that runs through your soul wants to bring it to you. If you can Think it – See it – Feel it – Say it – and Believe it – then you can Become it!

Live a Soul-filled life!
