This is otherwise known as Winter Solstice, the Sun crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, the Sun at the lowest point in the sky, etc. This may be the most ancient of seasonal celebrations to have ever existed that is astrology-based. And yes, the Mayan Indians have this date (12-21-2012) carved on three separate structures of archeological interest in Central America.

It mainly depends on your own horoscope, and how your own natal planetary placements get affected by the transiting planets of 12/21/12. A good astrologer can review this with you.
On a mundane (world) perspective, I suspect that we may start to see world populations "wake up" even more than ever, and start to question and grill their governments for answers pertaining to unanswered questions that they've been asking (OR showing displeasure with not getting truthful answers when such governments reply to such questions). This will probably be pertaining to the weak economies, breakdowns in certain social structures, questionable banking practices, and scarce financial resources (as defined and demonstrated by the sextile between Saturn and Pluto, with Jupiter as the midpoint between these two. That's my interpretation on a grand scale, not with your own horoscope).
