A CREED TO LIVE BY

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others.  It is because we are different that each of us is special.  Don't set your goals by what other people deem important, because, only you know what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest to your Heart.  Cherish them as you would your life, for without them Life is meaningless.

Don't let your Life experience slip through your fingers by living in the past, or for the future; by living your Life one day at a time, you live all the days of your Life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give, because nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect.....(what is perfect, anyway?) because it is this fragile thread that binds us to each other, in our humanness and humanity.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks.  It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave, and meeting our challenges is what makes us stronger.

Don't shut Love out of your Life.  The quickest way to receive Love is to give Love (and this includes giving Love to ourselves).  The fastest way to lose Love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep Love is to give it wings.

Don't dismiss your dreams; for to be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.

Don't run through Life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you're going.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

  • Little Feather,

Thank you sooo very much for sharing these words of wisdom with us. These are the Best Don'ts I've ever come across, as far as I can remember.

When we were kids, adults (parents/teachers/doctors, other adults (e.g. older siblings & other 'adult' relatives) bombarded us with millions of "Don'ts", e.g. "Don't play with the dog; it will bite you!"; "Don't put your fingers in your mouth after playing with the dog; you'll get sick!"; "Don't check the dog's bum everytime it farts!", etc. etc. etc.

Fair enough. But as kids, we were meant to explore life, discover what life (on earth) was all about, and learn our lessons early on, so that when we became 'adults' ourselves, we didn't have to start all over again from the Kindergarten of Life.

Oh, well... So now we know at last. Thanks again, Little Feather.
  • Ooooh, gotcha. Yeah, I do a lot of mental tweaking....in almost everything I read these days. :)))
  • I agree with you wholeheartedly, Peeky, but, I didn't want to do too much "tweaking". I did edit some of it so that there would be a better flow, and yes, the part you mentioned kinda jumped out at me as well. However, I don't want to take too many liberties with someone else's words.
  • This is wonderful. The unknown author was a very perceptive and soul filled and love filled person. There is so much truth here.

The one line I especially like and relate with is the one "don't dismiss your dreams"; for to be without dreams is to be without hope..... There was a time in my life when a deep apathy overtook me, and I could not seem to look ahead at all, not even a moment at a time, and it was like my life came to a screeching halt and that there was never going to be anything to look forward to or aspire to, and was very very grim. I dared not think that I had a future and had no desires or goals for the future at all, did not dare, and that was a very very dark time for me. I did not even dream for a long while, my life was just hollow and barren. It only was when I somehow pulled myself out of this and began to look forward a little bit, at first only a day ahead, but that was a start, and slowly began to look ahead and dare to imagine that I could feel happiness, that I was able to pull myself out of "hell" and start to live again, and dare to feel again, and dare to love again, and to hope again. So that line is the most poignant of all for me.
    • Yes, SW, that line reminds me of one I've heard so much, "If you Love someone set them free." I won't repeat the rest, because, no one belongs to anyone else. Actually, we are all already free......we just need to not put another in bondage of any kind in any way.
