Peacefully nestled in the Viluppuram district near Puduchery, Tamil Nadu, is a township like none other. Transcending money, politics and religion, welcome to Auroville, the City of Dawn.
“Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creed, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.”
It was founded on 28th February, 1968, by Mirra Alfassa (known as “The Mother”) as a project of the Sri Aurobindo Society. Mirra Alfassa was the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo, who held the notion that “man is a transitional being”. It was designed by Roger Anger.
Mother believed that the “universal township” of Auroville would contribute decisively to the Indian renaissance.
She expected that Auroville would “contribute significantly in the progress of humanity towards its splendid future by bringing together people of goodwill and aspiration for a better world.”
“Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville, one must be the willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness.”
People who inhabit Auroville come from around 50 nations, hailing from all age groups, social classes, cultures and backgrounds. In short, Auroville represents humanity as a whole. Its population currently stands at close to 2,400 people.
There is no concept of religion in Auroville!
Auroville believes in the service of truth, beyond religious conviction. There is a temple at the centre of the township called “The Mantrimandir”. It is of spiritual significance for those who practice Integral yoga and doesn’t belong to any particular religion or sect.
Or politics
Auroville runs without a hierarchical order. It is controlled by an assembly that comprises of every adult resident. Imagine a township being ran by an assembly of 900-odd members, hailing from different cultures, who at times do not even understand one another! Despite the community’s internal struggles, it flourishes almost as an independent nation!
There is no concept of money either!
“There won’t be any exchange of money in Auroville. It is only with the outside world that Auroville will have money relations. Money will be no more the Sovereign Lord; individual value will have a greater importance than the value due to material wealth and social position.” – Mother
There is a concept of Aurocard in this town.
Auroville is self-reliant in the truest sense of the word.
Auroville has its own architecture and town planning bureau. It has archival facilities, research institutions, an auditorium, 40-odd industries, restaurants, farms, guesthouses etc! It even has a high density of computers, a dedicated e-mail network (auronet) for the residents.

Auroville, 'the City of Dawn', is one of those ideas that anyone with idealistic leanings will love: an international community dedicated to peace, harmony, sustainable living, and 'divine consciousness', where people from across the globe, ignoring creed, colour and nationality, work together to build a universal, cash-free, non-religious township and realise good old human unity.
Outside opinions of Auroville's inhabitants range from admiration to accusations of self-indulgent escapism. Imagine over 100 small settlements scattered across the Tamil countryside, with 2300-odd residents of 43 nationalities. Nearly 60% of Aurovillians are foreign, and most new members require more funds than most Indians are ever likely to have. But the vibe you'll receive on a visit will probably be positive, and the energy driving the place is palpable.
Some 12km northwest of Puducherry, Auroville was founded in 1968 on the inspiration of 'the Mother', co-founder of Puducherry's Sri Aurobindo Ashram, and her philosophy still guides it. Aurovillians run a huge variety of projects ranging from schools and IT to organic farming, renewable energy and handicrafts production, employing 4000 to 5000 people from nearby villages.

Hi roaring, i think you are on to something with the bell tied to cat analogy.
It maybe the third phase of enslavement strategy.
First it was more overt slavery for some, then it is now covert, clever debt slavery where people believe they own stuff, but someone already have claim to all they have.
So it went from the individual illusion that they are free and own anything, to a collective illusion of ownership and freedom.
First off, we can't own anything, not these bodies, not anothers body, not earth, not sky, we own nothing, we are only using these things and have to release it all at some point.
This should be obvious to everyone, though we have been trained to believe we can own.
I noticed someone started a thread about the native american indians.
That is a very interesting subject, did the indians use money, from my limited research, i think they just shared with each other and created peace this way and nobody owned anything or anyone.
The dark beings saw this, from whatever dimension they are hiding in and destroyed these peaceful ways.
To sum it up, this auroville is suspect in me opinion.
Then again, where im living in the US corporation right now, is way more suspect, lol.
Many people here are oblivious to the slavery they are within and yet, i've talked to many that are aware.

Did...did I hear money? So there IS money in Aroville. As long as you can say yap yap yap MONEY yep yep yep AROVILLE. This beast is there. Then like butter accompanying bread, politics immediately follow money.
Ok lets put it in a better perspective. So these guys are merely buying collectively and selling collectively. This is just an ideal Consumer Cooperative Society that is also a Producer Cooperative Society! Such societies are there but they donnot even remortely look like a place for freedom and utopia. They can but have only created an illusion that there no taxes for each must contribute to the foreign exchange. Those guys collecting the money would be the leaders there. So we wind up with the same same boring money-politics prison.
Sky ...this is one of the better places on this Planet ...no tax, no terrorists and no threats, no governments ..no leaders and no Coperations and banks..no religions, no politics and no money. SO THIS PLACE HAS A LOT OF PLUS POINTS
