Buddhist believers say that karma and what our world is, depends on us, and our good and bad deeds that directly create our future experiences.
As John Lennon sings in his wonderful and meaningful song “Instant Karma”,
“…You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you’re gonna be dead
… What on earth you trying to do
It’s up to you, yeah you…”
We create our own life, our future, which is connected with the past and the present. We are responsible for experience regarding our own happiness and suffering.
It happens due to the law of cause and effect and relationship between them.
Bad And Good Karma Depends On Us - We Are Architects Of Our Own Fate
As the universal law of cause and effect states: for every effect there is a definite cause, likewise for every cause, there is a definite effect. Your thoughts, behaviors, and actions create specific effects that manifest and create your life as you know it.
It is your karma that governs you and influences your future.
The Shatapatha Brahmana, a Hindu sacred text dated to about 700 BC, but with portion of the texts believed to be far older, transmitted orally from unknown antiquity, says:
“While our bodies may die, the soul is eternal and it continues its journey through many lifetimes. The soul creates a system of actions and reactions (Karma), throughout these lives, forming a cycle of rebirth. And the totality of our actions and their reactions in this and previous lives, determine our future.
Thus — a man is born to the world he has made”.
Karma Means Much More Than Only Action
The word “karma” cannot be exactly explained. Its basic meaning is “action” but it is much, much more than the only “action”.
Everything we do now and have done so far is our karma that includes our memories, events from childhood and those that took place more recently – all this is included in our present life.
Karma Is Like A Feedback
It is like in a feedback process, when the effect or output of an action is ‘returned’ (fed-back) to modify the next action.
Now, the present moment we experience, is formed by both past and present activities, while current activities shape not only the future but also the present.
