Chomsky warns ‘con man’ Trump will drag civilization down to the ‘utter depths of barbarism’

Political philosopher Noam Chomsky issued a call for progressive voices to energetically defend the rights and opportunities central to U.S. democracy, arguing Donald Trump conned Americans into supporting him by effectively articulating their concerns and feelings.
“He’s kind of a con man,” Chomsky said in an interview with the Pacific Standard. “He was able to say things to a sector of the population that, in a way, articulated their own concerns and feelings, and did it pretty effectively.”
“To what extent that reflects his own views, to the extent that he has views, is very hard to say.” he added, noting the president-elect parroted “anti-establishment,” anti-Wall Street rhetoric before hiring five former Goldman Sachs employees.
“He says he’s going to bring back jobs and coal and manufacturing,” Chomsky noted. “How’s he going to do that? By picking a secretary of labor who’s very anti-labor.”
Chomsky said while Trump frequently reneges on his commitments, one he’s never backed down from his commitment to loosen regulations designed to combat climate change, calling it his “most dangerous” position. Noting we’re on the verge of an “environmental catastrophe,” Chomsky said efforts to address the issue are “urgent, and [Trump] wants to retard” them.
“The U.S. now has, literally, thanks to him and the Republican Party, the worst position in the world on this issue,” Chomsky argued.
Chomsky warned that when Trump fails to deliver on his promises, he’s likely to make “ a standard move that’s made by authoritarian figures and authoritarian structures,” namely, “blame it on people who are even more vulnerable and who are suffering even more than you are.”
“He’s already done plenty of this,” Chomsky argued, noting Trump’s divisive rhetoric on immigrants and Muslims.
Discussing the narrative of a “post-truth world,” Chomsky noted that propaganda often functions with “little bits and pieces of truth scattered around, enough to base a post-fact world on.” Just enough, he said, to convince “maybe the most civilized and educated part of the world down to the utter depths of barbarism.”
“That’s post-fact with a vengeance,” Chomsky added.
Though he noted Trump has “loose similarities to … demagogic figures,” progressive forces—“maybe the kind that mobilized for the Bernie Sanders campaign”—could develop a constructive alternative that “lead to real policies of hope and change.”
And, he argued, it’s up to us to defend and protect the rights of freedom of speech and association, insisting “everybody should be saying things like this.”
“All of us have things we can do. We have opportunities, we should pursue them to the best extent we can,” Chomsky said.

I have afeeling that Noam,s words might be too intelligent to some people to comprehend its meaning. not everyone is ready for some wisdom but kudos for the effort , Luke.....
I aggree Michael, it seems like a fruitless excercise sharing these kinds of insights when its obviously not gong to sink into a closed mind, I still feel its always worth the effort sharing it nonetheless. Noam Chomsky is more of an intelectual philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian and political analyst, a cunning linguist with a gift of the gab thats hard-matched with a seemingly endless supply of information pouring out of his head, like a duracell bunny without an off switch, a rebel without a pause! Still, I don't expect some ACC members to grasp it, I don't even get it half the time either and I need to really focus on what he says, but unlike some of our ACC Trump devoted fan base sistren and brethren who tend to ignore their own critical thought in favor of the tabloid, bubblegum area of their left over brain cell, I am relieved to know that there are some of us who do actually care about expanding our awareness.
I'm reminded of the parable Jesus apparently spoke of in the sermon on the mount, whereby some seed falls on hard rock and gets dried up and blows away in the wind. Imagine the potential change in energy this website would exude in terms of aura, if those who currently refuse to look within were to drop their fears and illusions and become furtile soil by allowing a seed of knowladge to take root, it would no doubt grow into enough wheat to feed an entire nation, instead of the odious discharge that pollutes the forum from where it has been confined, inside the heads of a confused group of deluded newbies whose repellent nature shuns higher truth in favor of illusary perceptions. The same principle applies in the world around us but thankfully the ripple effect of concious awareness has already been set in motion long ago, even though it seems like a slow boat to China. I see it as the awakened many alongside the unconcious few amonge us, some may see it the other way around. All we can do is continue to plant seeds in their beds, until they begin to stir in the sleep and eventually open their eyes, open their minds and most importantly, open the hearts. I feel its so important to look within, to follow our hearts and avail of our critical thought and our intuition and to use it wisely.
If people would only pull their heads out of their own arses and take the few, brief moments of time to the study the works of brilliant contemporary shaman like Terence McKenna, Alan Watts, David Icke and Jonathan Zap to name but four, their lives would be so much more enriched, and the urge for them to share higher truths would be amplified and added to the ripple as it moves accross the bay, where deeper insights into the nature of conciousness naturally join forces with like minded people, instead of the twardy and vacuous slave mentality that is still expressed by certain unconcious souls, both inside and outside of this website, whose Archontically infused conciousness is so muddled that they are depending on an equally moronic president elect to bring salvation to the world, its a ridiculous idea. What they don't understand is that their perception has been decieved. If 99% of the population was truely awake, Donald Trump wouldn't even be part of the equation. He would be a nobody, a lone voice in the wilderness more like a squeak in the background, like a small flame that would be quickly stamped out as soon as the rest of the world gets their Mojo on!
Ohhh.. Low blows and kidney punches, Andronover? Certainly Obama's run was seriously questionable but how about your idol, the one and only Donald take a Dump! Think for a moment how he ran his campaign. He was threatening the press, threatening journalists, he was advocating violence at his political rallies with those who disagreed with him and he wasn't prepared to show transparency (and still isn't) in regards his own tax returns. That, combined with all of his dirty laundry, his lewd pu$$y grabbing boasts, his misogynistic, xenophobic, racist personality, you name it. His presidential win is nothing but a temporary and shallow "victory" for morons, the question is his integrity, or lack thereof, which all of you Trump devotees pretend is part of his "charm" but in reality it dosen't exist, his integrity went out the window the moment he was born. Talk about the blind leading the blind, Trump, the "MacDaddy", the pied piper, the ratcatcher leading all the entranced children out of town as his stained reputation continues to haunt him and his seemingly endless dirty linen keeps emerging, yet they still continue to follow. I find it ridiculous that so many blind sheeple pinned their hopes on a half baked moron because they want some values reinforced, looking outside of themselves instead of within, it only re-establishes the point that so many people are out of touch with reality, out of sync with themselves and bypassing their own true devine nature because their pineal gland is still calcified. Watch it all turn to sh!t before your eyes, which is probibly a good thing in the larger scheme of things, nothing like a rude awakening to open peoples hearts and minds to the deeper meaning of their lives, so in this respect, Don is doing you all a valuable "disservice"!
what kind of values restored or reinforced , are you talking about Luke ?
Thats a very good question, Michael, indeed, what values? It seems Trump supporters have no values, perhaps I should have used the word "hope", their hopes restored. Either way, the'yre p#ssing into the wind if they're depending on Plump to find any value in their lives, and if they are hoping he will change their lives for the better, then their hopes will soon be crushed when they realize he is not who they thought he was. David Icke sums it up pretty accurately when he says that "the swamp drainer has just got the hose pipe out and started filling it", and that Trump is 100% owned by Isreal, by handing the American economy to zionists.
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, Michael, I needed to correct it.
you are welcome....................
Your idol Michael:
