In my opinion charity is a very important thing - it teaches us compassion with those who have more serious problems than you.
We do not even need to donate money all the time. Since in many cases donating something as cheap as a smile or a gaze or simply shaking hands or hugging is likely to be enough in order to improve the situation of someone.
However improving the situation of someone is sometimes not enough when a person is not able to help themselves anymore. So they need much attention, support and first of all new trust in the world. We can show such people or even animals and even plants (actually all life forms) as well as ourselves that there is indeed a way out of any negative situation as long we believe that there is one.
So charity in it's core is all about the golden rule of Ethics: Treat others as you would like to be treated.
I suggest everybody to remember this every time you see or hear some one in need.
Sooner or later all good deeds come back to you in even magnitudes more positive forms.
Therefore even the most egoistic people are recommended to consider this... ;)
