China has been behind the creation of 55 tons of artificial rain over a year and now the country is taking on what is termed their biggest project in rainmaking yet.
China Will Make Artificial Rain and Snow across 1.6 Million Sq. Meters
Authorities in China have announced details of a plan to make it rain and snow over 1.6 million square meters. This is a region that is around three times the size of Spain. Media reports have stated that the Chinese government is going to use military grade weather changing technology that the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation own.
China is planning to build many tens of thousands combustion chambers on the mountainside in Tibet. These chambers will burn solid fuel and this will mean that silver iodide will billion into the sky in a spray. A researcher said that 500 burners had been deployed on the alpine slopes of Tibet and Xinjiang, along with other regions for an experiment. The researchers said that the data collected revealed results that were very promising. Sometimes snow started to fall as soon as the chamber was ignited, in the way it would if you were on the stage at a magic show.
Tibetan Mountains Are Vital For Chinese Water Supply
The plateau in Tibet is a vital source for the water supply of China along with a large region in Asia. The reservoirs and glaciers feed the Mekong, Yangtze, and Yellow, along with other big rivers that make their way through China, Nepal, and India.
Particles are sprayed from planes and these mean that passing water vapor can condense around them and form clouds. The clouds then bring rain with it. Just one cloud seeding chamber is enough to create a strip of clouds that cover a region of 5km. Making rain generally involves launching chemicals by rocket into clouds and this accelerates the creation of ice crystals and they become rain. China has used military aircraft for just this. The Chinese make rain to clean up the air as the big cities suffer from heavy smog.
Weather Modifications Were Used In Beijing before Olympics
Weather modification is becoming more and more frequent in the country. In 2008 China sent 1,100 rockets into the sky that contained silver iodide into the sky over Beijing before the Olympic opening ceremony was to start to disperse the clouds that had started to gather in the hope of keeping the Olympics rain-free. There is a development plan in place for weather modification in Beijing until 2020.
