I am considering boycotting music festivals until people stop dying at them, and if you think I am joking, I am a published musician who owns my own copyright, because I wrote, played and produced it single handed. I always wanted to go to the Falls festival, and last year they found a dead guy buried in the middle of the showground who was missing for some time from Brisbane. 14 year old girls dehydrated dead at Big Day Out and another crushed to death on D-barriers at Soundwave and I am being very selective with my examples. Here is my album which you can bet I will never play for anything that has proven fatal in it's implementation. Earth Frequency Fest MAY be different, but every day we aren't creating solutions, we are feeding problems and most music festivals, are major problems for the townships, patrons, musicians, promoters. It is all just another snuff media to me now, especially here, in the years after September 11.

  • They should learn from the Rave-scene. A few years ago, the more respected parties actually had doctors moving around on the floor keeping track of people to make sure they didn't harm themselves more than nescessary. They didn't stop any drug use, but they made sure that when the drugs were taken, they were taken in a safe(r) manner.

It's expensive though. Doctors aren't cheap to hire like that. Each one will cost at least $150 per hour + accessories.

People will probably still die every now and then but that's not the festivals fault. Occassional deaths can only be stopped if people submit completely and unconditionally to being controlled by the authorities that tell them where to sleep, where to pee, where to drink and what and how much to eat. The moment someone deviate from those instructions, sh*t will start to happen.

Free will is the cause of most deaths at festivals. If you want to eliminate the deaths, you will first have to do something about the free will. ;)

    • NOT MY POINT. My point is that no one deserves to be trampled to death on a D barrier. There is a fairly new annual dance party festival close to where I live and the last time it was held someone died of drug overdose, one more selective example, that as you say, will happen wherever people are taking drugs like idiots, music festival or no. The fact that a man was found BURIED after being MISSING for some time, hundreds of kilometers from where he was last seen, leads me to believe that festivals are nothing more than another excuse for organized crime to attempt to conceal itself among all the bells and whistles that draws the vapid.

      • "NOT MY POINT. My point is that no one deserves to be trampled to death on a D barrier."

According to Karma and a lack of education, they do indeed deserve that.
If you choose to stand in front of a mass of people where each person is able to push with a force of at least 20 kilo, simple mathematics should tell you that being in front of all those people while having a barrier just in front of you, could be lethal.

Rule number one when it comes to being amongst masses of people is: Always identify and keep an exit point in case of an emergency.

It's a wonder that there aren't more accidents happening actually. But, most people have learned the hard way that "pushing forward" is a bad idea when you stand amongst hordes of people.

However the only solution I can find to this problem is to have more barriers where there are evenly spaced barriers throughout the entire concert floor where each section can only fit a maximum of 5 rows of people. The downside of that would be that during a fire, they would become death traps since it'd require everyone to vacate the area in the same direction or the entire system would collapse and everyone would die.

"There is a fairly new annual dance party festival close to where I live and the last time it was held someone died of drug overdose"

Yes, those deaths will be difficult to stop without having sort of a "Police State" on the floor.

"leads me to believe that festivals are nothing more than another excuse for organized crime to attempt to conceal itself among all the bells and whistles that draws the vapid."

Well .. Organized crime thrives on festivals, markets, towns, shopping malls and so on..  Everywhere where there's not a police officer present for each 100 yard block, is a place where organised crime can thrive. The only festival I know for a fact there's organised crime present is Roskilde, where Hells Angels are the ones responsible for the security arrangements.

However, they keep the order far better and more efficient than any police ever could.

The case with the buried man could have been about anything. Do we know he didn't rape anyones sister that night for instance?

        • I have major problems with EVERYTHING you just said, starting from your assertion that anyone deserves to die, that a police state will ever be a good thing because drugs should be de regulated and not enforced as it prevents organized crime of the drug type to even exist. restructuring the safety protocols around a festival as you suggest will also never work, that is like telling soccer hooligans not to riot and destroy a town afterward, another institution I hate being monetized sporting events. If you know anything about me, you will know I advocate www.ubuntuparty.org.za which cancels out the concepts of money, organized crime, drug syndicates, and most of the methods that allow human nature to twist into people who rape anybody to begin with. Hence the only sane course of action to me is not to attempt to put band aids on all of the problems and wait to see how they bleed anew, and addressing my semantic points which I said were SELECTIVE examples does not touch on the almost innumerable problems associated to festivals like massive amounts of pollution, noise pollution, car accidents and misadventure traveling to and from etc etc etc ad infinitum. The ONLY sane course of action to my mind is to ABOLISH the concept for a time, until humanity has learned how to restructure society completely, on every level.

          • I DO HOPE you do not think I am simply being argumentative, however I think you have slight tunnel vision on my concept, realize that all of the fans who go to festivals are usually there to see ONE band and they could EASILY go see that band in a safer location which would be easier to officiate under the principles you raise, which I DO see as valid contribution and thank you for.

  • ...Hmmm...?....Really??......

    • I don't speak in louis' coda

      • coda is simply the end of a piece of music which ties the whole thing together, which is what the N.W.O is trying to do to consciousness

        • yep until they crash society and then turn hard right and crack down as a police state then apply ultra conservatism -it's a tactic used over the centuries-chinese communists and north korea are ultra conservatives-completely f-ing nuts

          • Yeah I am pretty big on the offering solutions with problems that are outlined, thanks for the 1984 synopsis though
