Discernment Times, a free quarterly magazine, is distributed in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Its first issue will roll off the press in September, 2011 to reach a projected 35,000 readers.
BE THE CHANGE. Discernment Times is about folks who are BEING THE CHANGE. That, to me, is the essence of NATURAL LIVING. This change induces a life based on HARMONY, ABUNDANCE, AND EQUITY FOR ALL LIVING THINGS.
“Whole being living is sustainable, which means much more than just the ecological aspect. Real sustainable living creates the substance of life from a matrixed lifestyle of education, the arts, recreation, natural health care, understanding the environment, and realizing our potential as individuals. Each issue will facilitate that knowledge in a printed and online version so that the entire community – this entire region – benefits by exploring various characteristics of whole living lifestyles. According to Community Magazine Network, “There are 1,200 community magazines in the U.S. reaching an estimated 60 million people with every issue and every community has its own distinct flavor that generates success.”
The intention of every knowledge packed article in the Discernment Times magazine is to enhance living for all sentient beings and encourage creative, peaceful living as individuals and as a unified community. One of Mann’s mentors is John Dewey, who had this to say on community, “There is more than a verbal tie between the words common, community, and communication. Try the experiment of communicating, with fullness and accuracy.” This magazine will communicate a juggernaut of themes that emphasize natural living lifestyles.
Discernment Times issues will include 1) a variety of provoking, informative articles from authors covering topics on sustainable lifestyles and news that investigates this unique region, 2) Local favorite cooking recipes, 3) a calendar of events: Jackson County in Oregon along with Shasta County and Siskiyou County in California, and 4) a Shop Local Community Coupon page offering discounts on local products and services. Mann is seeking local freelance writers on specific topics, along with local folks who will send him event and class data for the calendars, and contributors who will send in their favorite recipe to share with other families in the region. There are a myriad of ways this magazine will communicate about the advantages of natural living n this region.
BE THE CHANGE
The material in this magazine is about BEing the change.
There is no money to be made here. In the old model of living, the provider of a good or service asked you to pay a fee or price thereby evoking a "profit." That business model is outdated. In the new reality that is arriving here - more and more - each day, money is simply not the priority.
In our new world that is upon us, the main emphasis is living in harmony, which begins with the inner harmony of each living thing. We are all connected to each other. Have you noticed?
Discernment Times supports its readers in understanding how to modify your behaviors and thinking so that you too can begin living a life based on these characteristics:
- living in harmony with all living things
- exchanging info, energy, and skills instead of money
- creating a peacful world where folks can co-exist with
one another
- a lawful world that supports the rights of all natural
people to enjoy equitable opportunites
- a world where love comes first and is always present
- lifestyles that encourage critical thinking and are free
from fear and dogma
