STARVING Syrian rebels besieged in the suburbs of the capital Damascus signalled their desperation yesterday by killing and eating a zoo’s lion.

Pictures of men butchering the visibly emaciated animal, said to have been taken from the Al-Qarya al-Shama Zoo, were widely disseminated on websites sympathetic to the rebels, although their authenticity could not be verified.

The Syrian army’s siege of the eastern Ghouta districts of the city has lasted more than six months. Residents have reported acute food shortages and hardship with the onset of winter. The area was one of those in Damascus attacked with chemical weapons in August.

  • Does this mean that the war is soon to be over?

If the rebels all starve now then the situation will be resolved in 3 months, when they die of hunger. ;)

After that the entire middle east will probably unite and attack both Europe and USA as payment for drone-wars and other terrors we've been inflicting them with over a far too long period of time already.

    • Because you live in Europe, your "acute observation" of the Middle East attacking Europe defines that you will be attacked as well.

      • Yes it does.
        Does that chock you?

        • No, it does not "chock" me. I'm just "chocked" by your blatant apathy about the potential for heavy duty violence taking place in your neck of the woods. I like to live, I like to party. I don't like violence, unless it's part of a drama where nobody actually gets hurt. You seem to not give a sh!t if it actually happens in your neighborhood (with such violence courtesy of nutjobs selected to be in government by nutjobs who run the media, military industries, and financial institutions. And not necessarily selected by everyone in your neighborhood or other neighborhoods).

          • The future will come no matter if you like it or not.
If my fellow citizens did not want to get attacked by the muslim world they shouldn't have bombed it in the first place. They made a choice and are going to have to pay for it.

My country, with soldiers payed by MY taxes, have committed so many war crimes over the years that we should be happy even if just one of our millions of citizens survive the rebound.

I spoke out against all campaigns my govt have participated in over the years but speaking weren't enough. It happened anyway, and now I'm gonna have to stand and pay the price along with everyone else.

What will save me is my excellent ability of convincing enemy "combatants" that we in reality, are on the same side.
That ability have saved me countless times in life.

"I'm just "chocked" by your blatant apathy about the potential for heavy duty violence taking place in your neck of the woods."

We already have that kind of heavy duty violence in the neck of our woods, but at the moment the battle goes between local groups fighting for control over the black market. There's also a lot of ethnic violence here. Never around Me though since I don't attract such things, but I can see it if I go look for it.

And I DO care, but I won't defy logic. If a group of people have earned a karmic response I will NOT stand in the way of that karmic response. That'd be a terribly irresponsible thing to do in a Free Will Universe. Humans have had their hands on the hot plate for far too long. It's time to give them the opportunity to get burned. :)

            • If it's too hot in the kitchen, then maybe you should move to another place. I have moved away from two cities due to the presence of government a$$hole$ who get off and get well-erected with their jobs of screwing over people, messing up their lives, and then going out for fish and chips after its done. With attractive paid-for company.

              • I will move when I can afford it. As for now, I'm stuck where I am, along with a fascistic govt bent on my destruction unless I destroy them first, which I won't since I happen to know that their particular system activated its self destruct sequence a long time ago. I'm just waiting for the boom and when that's over, I'll plow over the rubble before none are the wiser, and start to build a paradise in its place. :)

So, if God could send his bulldozer to earth soon, I'm ready to go to work and build the world I originally came from. (I'm a living time-paradox, a delicate equation to a chaotic environment ;) )

  • poor "buggers" couldn't even plant a garden, sprout seeds, forage and drink plenty of water. Instead, meat eaters decided to murder another sential being.........................irony at its best.......................

    • It's pretty hard to start and plant a garden when you have strong probability of bullets whizzing past your head in public. Or have the soil contaminated by chemical weapons used to attempt to blackmail the president you seek to overthrow.
