I'm the first to admit that I'm not a student of global political/religious history.
As such I endeavour to keep my opinions to myself regarding the whys and wherefores of this long standing, on going conflict.
What i can claim to be a sudent in is human behaviour.
As such I find your comment regarding the desire for the process and not peace most interesting.
In many ways, war is perhaps the logical conclusion of the dog/alpha male pack mentality.
It is a fear driven behaviour. Typically, the aggressor is the more frightened of the parties. Someone who lives in fear won't attack someone that they deem to have superior power. 
They dominate they weak to satisfy their desperate need to provide for and protect for their pack.
It also satisfies the instinctive masculine need to compete to be the best.
If we take the dog metaphor one step further...
When dogs, (or most any species for that matter) are fighting for the position of top dog the, conflict is over once clear dominance has been established
That is, when the weaker of the two parties submits. 
Dogs instinctively understand this 
They know it isn't personal.
In the case of the Middle East conflict, we have a situation where clear dominance has been established
In the mind of the the dominant, there is just cause for the peace process to occur.
What hasn't happened is submission.
Which is what an alpha male deems to be peace.
Furthermore, the rest of the world is telling Israel that what they are doing is wrong.
And it is they who must submit.
Which they very well may be.
And when a dog feels it has its back against the wall it becomes most dangerous.
So, keeping in mind that i know little about the history or karnic nature of the conflict,
the question I ask is 
What would be the consequences of Palestine submitting?
Have they said,
WE SURRENDER. PLEASE STOP. 
The fact that Israel is keen for the process suggests that they've had enough or the blood shed also.
And if no one other country is prepared to help them, what other option do they have?
This "new", more compassionate energy that Earth is now exposed to seeks to unify.
The problem is, to get there, you have to first go through your fears.
Slaughtering of children is an indication that Israel is way deep in it.
A desperate effort to force submission.
Please understand. This is not in any way a justification for what is going on there.
Nor is it an expression of my personal opinion.
It is just an observation of a recognizable behavioural pattern.
(Give or take thousands of years worth of bad, bad, habits).
Regardless of who's right or wrong, what matters is that people are dying needlessly.
And if the solution be that someone has to swallow their pride for the greater good, is it worth it?
The new energy has changed the rules of interpersonal engagement significantly.
And the rules apply equally from the micro to the macro.
My recent experiences in a therauptic environment have shown me that surrendering to the inevitable, (and it is inevitable), is now a viable option in a way that it has never been before.
In closing. the question I ask is are the "peace makers" seeking peace, revenge, or are they grooming their ego's?
Only one of those attitudes has any chance of a peaceful outcome.
