Blake Fischer, Commissioner of the Idaho Fish and Game society has been forced to resign over a scandal that sees him killing animals during an African hunting trip.
Shocking photos have surfaced showing a kill of a family of baboons, along with numerous other animals. Governor CL Otter called for him to resign after he saw the photographs. It is clear that Fischer had specifically made the trip to Africa to take part in this hunting.
Fischer emailed friends and family these photographs, which depicted him beside a dead family of baboons – one of which was a baby. He also was photographed having shot a giraffe, a leopard, an impala, and antelope and a waterbuck - amongst others. This took place in Namibia.
In these emails, which were sent to 125 people, Fischer was clearly bragging about these kills, explaining he had shot a leopard. He described the leopard as a cool animal, and that in Africa you had to kill before you were killed yourself. He also explained the animal was one of the big 5. The fact that Fischer has cleared set up the photographs, gathering up the family of dead baboons to pose in such a manner, has clearly upset a lot of people.
The photos were not taken well by the governor’s office, and immediate backlash occurred. Fischer was called to resign from his post. The governor stated that he was dismayed someone lucky enough to be the Game Commissioner for the Idaho Fish and Game society could do such a thing and feel pleased about it.
Many are stating that Fischer showed poor judgment as a government official and that his actions were abhorrent. Fischer has obviously accepted the backlash and has given his resignation letter in. He has resigned and is no longer working as Game Commissioner.
