The opposite of indifference is compassion. For most of us, compassion is an off-and-on feeling, when we are confronted with a public disaster, or our own experiences with grief.
If one comes to believe, and to know, that Love is the only reality, every moment, every happening, however trivial, however monumental, becomes a step towards the ultimate realization—the ascendence to the mastery of self. Whether the transformation to this state of ascension takes a lifetime, or whether it is instantaneous, is of no concern. The desire is ever held in mind, no matter how long it takes, and at some time, somewhere, compassion blossoms into never-diminishing, always attentively listening empathy. It may take a lifetime, or it may take many lifetimes. The choice is ours.
To get “there” a little faster, knowing how wishy-washy, unfocused, ofteh unmotivated, and especially, undisciplined I for one, am, I decided to write out what I wanted to be, ever so many years ago. I shall continue to reiterate my little verse, at least a hundred times a day, until…I get there.
Perhaps it is more important to know what one wants to be, than aiming for dream-fulfillment, as the principles of conduct once established, become the assets of the rest of our lives. At least, we can strive for assets, and not the liabilities of poor habits of thought and deed.
And here is one “pathfinder’s” reflection on “Becoming”:
Divine Love—all we are, all we have—
All means, all resources—
Balanced wholly—
Compassionate always—
Inner and outer order—
Perfect forgiving, healing, learning, teaching—
Prodigiously creative—
Instant photographic recall of any sensory or extrasensory date—
Sound of judgment—
Total efficiency of mind and body.
In gratitude, we are blessed!
