Residents located on Lasqueti have very few rules but enforce their lifestyle to anyone who thinks of setting up shop there.

They operate entirely with little to no means of industrialization or economy for the land in which they live on. The Island is all they need to survive and be happy with one another, as well as the addition of having little to no carbon footprint.

In 2011, the census of Lasqueti consists of 426 individuals who inhabit the island and according to their community website, they claim to have only 350 permanent residents with the addition of 70 children. Not only is there a small population, but almost every single individual radiates with professionalism as well as originality.Screen Shot 2015-11-01 at 10.50.31 AM

The island is focused on renewable resources such as wind turbines, solar panels, wood burning stoves, and water mills to supply them with all the necessities required to live comfortably.

This includes growing their own food, keeping chickens, and using composting toilets for disposing any waste. In fact, the community has provided a book labeled “How to Shyte on Lasqueti.”

Lasqueti is definitely a land of opportunity for anyone who is looking to rid themselves of the mainstream world, however, it comes with this piece of mind that everyone must install into their brain before living there:

E

5979982473_fbc41d373a_b“However you decide to come, and whatever you are hoping to find here, please keep this in mind: Lasqueti is not some utopian paradise, it is not an “intentional community”, and it is probably not whatever you think it is – it is just a relatively remote island, populated by a small, tight-knit community of quirky, independent-minded people, with its own unique culture and identity.”

“Come with an open mind, a willingness to discover something a little different, and without rigid expectations.

Resist the urge to project upon us your vision of what this place “should” be. It is what it is, and we like it this way, warts and all. If you can get with that, you too may find a place here.”
