I am typing this from a cheap motel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I will soon be working In Santa Fe, New Mexico, and I am scouting out these two areas in New Mexico for a place to live.
The incident occurred on Interstate 10 at about 2:00 AM, August 3rd, just outside Ft Stockton, Texas while on route to Albuquerque. There was a sign that said "Bakersfield" near the incident as well. There were no time lapses; I arrived in El Paso, Texas at my scheduled time of 6:30 AM, for August 3rd. I do not have my scanner with me, so I cannot do a picture of what I saw.
The UFO appeared to be a very huge "boomerang," and it had no lights. My guess of the length was about 4-5 car lanes in length; this is a rough guess because the incident happened so fast. There were no other vehicles around; I was traveling in my car on Interstate 10 in a vey isolated "oil production area" and had my high beam lights on and I was traveling about 85 mph.
The UFO seemed to "drop down" from the sky about 50 yards in front of me and then stopped very quickly (about 50-100 feet off the ground in front of me) and then it went straight back up to the sky, all in about 1/10 to 1/4 of a second. It was sort of like a yo-yo that came down, stopped, and then went straight back up (but it was so freaking fast when it did it!!!)
I honestly thought a jet was about to crash in front of me; my blood turned cold and I think my heart stopped. The UFO was gone almost right after I let my foot off the accelerator and slammed on my brakes (and I almost swerved off the road),

What you saw was most likely a B2 Spirit flying in "stealth mode".
I too have seen one of those fly very low at night and it was truly an enerving experience.

Can you remember how the air smelt in the minutes after you saw it?
