Think fast food has to be greasy, unhealthy and cheap? Think again.

The country’s first all-organic drive-thru has finally opened in California, with lines out the door as customers flock for a chance to support what could be the biggest step forward for industry ever.

The new Amy’s Organic Drive-Thru restaurant opened in Rohnert Park, California, featuring an all-vegeterian menu packed with items like veggie burgers, salads, and even mac n’ cheese in both regular and vegan flavors.

The company’s signature frozen pizzas have always been a top seller in health food and grocery stores nationwide, and now Amy’s first restaurant is serving them up piping hot with toppings ranging from spinach and diced tomatoes (on its popular margherita pizza) to regular mozzarella cheese and even vegan “cheeze.”

As reported by ABC-7 News in the Bay area, the new Amy’s Restaurant has been completely packed with long lines in the dining area and in the drive-thru, and reported wait times of 15-20 minutes.

Others have chimed in on review sites noting that they were excited to see huge crowds with lines going all the way out the door, reminiscent of another chain working to change the food system: Chipotle Mexican Grill, whose popularity is exploding at the same time that McDonald’s is faltering.

“Five days in and they can barely keep up with demand,” reported ABC-7 about Amy’s first week in business.

Manager Paul Schiefer was more than happy with the response.

“So many (have) showed up and it’s given us a lot of hope that this is a concept that works.”

Sustainably Grown, GMO-Free and Tasty!

While other fast food restaurants import virtually all of their products from factory farming operations and give nothing back to the community, Amy’s actually grows produce on site thanks to its roof-bound garden.

Amy’s, an independently owned organic frozen food company, also reportedly pays workers a living wage with health benefits and is believed to be the first vegetarian fast food restaurant as well.

(NaturalNews) A modern, health-conscious take on fast food is coming soon to northern California -- and no, it's not McDonald's introducing "breakfast kale" at select restaurants in a lame attempt to stay relevant. Organic pioneer Amy's Kitchen is set to open its first drive-through restaurant in Rohnert Park, where they will feature common fast food items like burgers, fries, and shakes made with only clean, organic ingredients.

With an end-of-June launch date, the Amy's restaurant, which features large wall-to-wall windows and trendy outdoor seating, will begin serving sustainably-grown French fries cooked in sunflower oil, a healthy alternative to typical fast food fries cooked in soybean or canola oils. The restaurant will also serve other fast food favorites such as burritos, pizza, and salads without all the usual fast food offenders like genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) and chemical preservatives.

This is all part of the company's mission to change the way people eat by serving up what Americans already love using only healthy, chemical- and GMO-free ingredients. An impressive 95 percent of the menu items to be served at the Amy's restaurant will be certified organic, and the rest will be the cleanest and most local ingredients that the company can find.

"Most businesses would go to a company and buy a bunch of frozen potatoes," says John Paneno, Director of Sourcing at Amy's Kitchen, about the unique Amy's approach. According to Civil Eats, Amy's searched long and hard for the best variety of potatoes to serve to customers, and they teamed up with a local farmer to grow them without chemical pesticides and herbicides.

"Amy's started from scratch. We hired experts who could find the best varieties that met our sensory requirements. We had to figure out where they grew best and who is the best farmer to process them. We're not taking any shortcuts."

The foods we all love can be made healthier, and Amy's is taking the lead

Rather than try to reinvent the wheel like many other fast food chains are now attempting to retain customers, Amy's is sticking with the basics. Burgers and shakes often get a bad rap as junk food, for example, but these and other food products can be made healthier by using grass-fed beef or by sourcing local cheeses and breads made without GMOs.

It's the future of fast food in a world that is rapidly waking up to the truth about chemical agriculture and the mass destruction it causes to human health. Amy's is setting a new standard without resorting to clever marketing and bait-and-switch tactics. Instead, they are simply sourcing high-quality ingredients from foods grown the way our ancestors grew them.

"We haven't changed," says Amy's co-founder and co-CEO Amy Berliner. "Organic, vegetarian and non-GMO is who we are."

In recent weeks, fast food chain Chipotle added to this positive momentum by announcing that it had officially removed all GMOs from its menu items. The only items that might still contain GMO content are Chipotle's meats, save for the beef (which is grass-fed), which the company says may or may not have been given feed containing GMOs.

Meanwhile, McDonald's is reportedly shuttering at least 700 restaurants globally as the world's most prominent fast food chain faces changing consumer tastes and preferences.

"The culture is shifting and (Amy's) is going to be a big player in a different way in which the planet is going to eat," stated David Trachtenberg, the architect behind the Amy's restaurant concept, to The Press Democrat.

"There's no denying that people go through drive-throughs. That's how people eat. Let's give them at least one choice that's healthy for them and healthy for the planet."

While McDonald’s stock sinks faster than a ten-ton truck as the fast food giant loses loads of cashorganic food brand Amy’s has just received approval to build one of the first non-GMO, organic, fast-food drive-thru’s right across the street from a dying mega-company’s golden arches.

The organic frozen food company you’ve seen in your grocery store, Amy’s is taking on the convenience food business in a big way, and just in time for a surging demand for organic foods from the American public.

The developers say the 4000 square foot restaurant replete with a living roof made of grass, rainwater collection, and solar panels – all reflecting the values of the company – should be open and ready for business in November of this year.

“It will be a pretty large statement there at the entrance to the Wilfred/Dowdell Specific Plan,” said Marilyn Ponton, director of development services, referring to the 250,000-square-foot commercial project in northwest Rohnert Park adjacent to the Graton Resort and Casino. “It’s very different. People will come to look at it.”

David Trachtenberg, the architect who designed the restaurant, said buildings with living roofs are becoming trendy. He states:

“It is a prototype for Amy’s, they are a plant-based company. They’re one of the world’s largest purveyors of organic, vegetarian food, so the idea of a green roof ties into the ethos of the company.”

This is super exciting, as fast food giants like McDonald’s continue to lose money month after month after decades of serving the public low quality junk. Adding to the excitement is the fast that demand for organic food has busted through its glass ceiling. Over 20,000 stores now offer organic food products. According to Nutrition Business Journalorganic food sales will reach a startling $35 billion this year. For those of us who don’t take our health for granted, this is just the beginning of a food revolution.

All of this news, along with the opening of this new organic restaurant, is a testament to the success the health movement has had on the nation and planet as a whole.

The Amy’s restaurant will open in Sonoma County, but you can write the company and tell them you would love to have one in your backyard, too.
