A heartbreaking video clip of a herd of elephants mourning the death of their leader has left many Internet users deeply moved by the empathy these animals have.
On the shores of a lake near Anuradhapura, not far from the Kalawewa reserve in Sri Lanka, lies the body of an elephant apparently killed by a rival. The dead elephant was the leader of a herd.
About 10 elephants can be seen in the video gathered to mourn their fallen leader; many of them stand beside the corpse in silence.
About 300 elephants were reported to have gathered nearby, although they were not part of the herd.
