Sound, Music, and Enlightenment

I wrote the following for The Aquarius Paradigm Weekly Newsletter.

To begin for this week, we’re going to pick up from last week’s discussion of the AUM mantra with material about the natural current of spiritual, musical energy that flows through each of us. When I read some of the quotes we’re going to discuss, I was astonished at their relevance to my path and the things I’m experiencing and striving to do.

I’ve wanted to increase my reception of the divine flow of energy/creativity, and I’ve strived to work as hard as I can to strengthen this reception. My desire to access the flow in an unhindered way is responsible for all of the work I do, and I’ve also been playing a lot more music than before.

I haven’t recorded anything and I don’t plan to until I hone the ability some more, but I’ve been working harder than ever on developing the music and the quotes we’ll examine here inspired me on multiple levels. Hopefully, it’ll do the same for all of you.

Again, our topic is the relevance and importance of sound and music to our existence, and we’ll start with a quote from the Book of Deuteronomy about the conduit to spirit ‘the word’ provides.

“It is not in heaven, neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldst say, Who shall go and bring it unto us, that we may hear it and do it? But the word* is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.” (1)

‘The word’ is a term for the mantras we can speak and the beautiful sounds we can make, and it can put us on a higher vibration and help us sharpen our reception of the energy we constantly receive from the other side.

The more we either sharpen our musical abilities or incorporate mantras (or chanting) into our meditations, the easier it’ll be to connect with the divine, musical flow of energy that swims within, waiting for us to pick up on it. What stops us from accessing it?

Only our own unwillingness to go deeper than ever before and explore it. Personally, I think we should take the plunge.

Some people might wonder why I’m comfortable using quotes from religious books, and this is because these books, while distorted in a lot of ways, still contain some genuine spiritual teachings that can help us along the path of enlightenment.

Every holy book has a few sacred teachings; a few sacred ‘gems’ to offer us. We just have to be discerning and take what works for us, setting the rest aside.

Swami Brahmananda tells us about one of his first attempts to perceive a higher vibration in the form of sound.

“One day, in the course of his teaching, Sri Ramakrishna spoke about the manifestation of Brahman as sound — the Logos. later, when I sat for meditation I took this as my subject, and it was not long before the sound Brahman was revealed to me.” (2)

We only need to get past the initial hiccups that present themselves when we try to incorporate sound into our meditations, and once we get the hang of it, we’ll perceive Source in a much greater way than we would have if we didn’t discover and explore the power of sound.

It didn’t take Swami Brahmananda long to successfully incorporate sound into his meditations, and once he did, he accessed a whole new part of himself that he might not have realized existed before. His and plenty of other seekers’ channels were opened in a much greater way, and their reception of the divine flow probably became much stronger.

The energy they were able to bring through was obviously purer because of this, and they don’t have to be the only ones who experienced this upgrade – we can all pursue sound in various higher forms. Music; mantras; chanting; talking; it doesn’t matter.

Master Hilarion through Mabel Collins encourages us to pursue the sound of the soul and persevere in the face of any initial discord.

“Look for it and listen to it first in your own heart. At first you may say: ‘It is not there; when I search I find only discord.’ Look deeper. If again you are disappointed, pause and look deeper again. There is a natural melody, an obscure fount in every human heart. It may be hidden over and utterly concealed and silenced — but it is there.

“At the very base of your nature you will find faith, hope, and love.” (3)

This was one of the quotes that really hit me, because again, I’ve strived to attain a writing and music-based flow for a long time. Plenty of seekers strive to attain this flow, and even though Hilarion refers to sound and music here, his words are applicable to every other creative outlet that’s inspired by a higher vibration.

Every creative person strives to access this flow; this greater ability to convey what they feel inside in as flowing, artful, and enjoyable of a way as possible.

A lot of creative avenues involve or require sound, and the seekers who practice them are able to access a higher vibration in a deeper way. Sound seems to have some kind of innate purpose; some inherent ability to help us access a deeper state of consciousness. It’s definitely uncanny, and it’s useful to the seekers who enjoy singing, speaking, etc.

Hilarion also tells us that despite the ego-driven bridge a lot of people have built around their sacred inner flow, it exists and flows as strongly as it always has.

“He that chooses evil refuses to look within himself, shuts his eyes to the melody of his heart, as he blinds his eyes to the light of his soul. He does this because he finds it easier to live in his desires. But underneath all life is the strong current that cannot be checked; the great waters are there in reality.” (4)

We all have the potential to access this strong inner current of spiritual energy and inspiration, but a lot of people block themselves from it in favor of materialistic desires that keep them from exploring their inner perception. I’ve fallen prey to the desires of the mind and ego plenty of times, and I always notice that it feels more confining than liberating.

It might be difficult, but we have to be willing to use discipline to find and remain on a higher vibration and develop/practice our abilities from there. I mentioned my pursuit of writing and music earlier, and I notice that when I’m in an ego-driven frame of mind, I feel much less motivated to pursue either of them.

In fact, I feel motivated to do little more than sit on the couch.

This is the pacified state of consciousness the cabal wants us to be in, and I think it’s essential that we make it a point to develop our abilities from as high of a vibration as we can reach. I think we should also remain disciplined in the face of temptation to feed a lower vibration, because the desires of the mind and ego will lead us to unhappiness.

Hilarion then tells us that once we develop our perception of the divine, musical flow, we’ll notice it in the hearts of others more easily.

“All those beings among whom you struggle are fragments of the Divine. And so deceptive is the illusion in which you live, that it is hard to guess where you will first detect the sweet voice in the hearts of others. But know that it is certainly within yourself. Look for it there and once having heard it, you will more readily recognize it around you.” (5)

If we want to see the divinity in others, we first have to learn to love and accept ourselves for who we are, and subsequently, develop our perception of the divine flow. Plenty of seekers have already been able to access this flow, and they can probably attest to its immense physical and spiritual benefits.

I don’t know about any of you, but I’m still at the beginning of my reception of this flow. I’ll admit that it’s picked up quite a bit for me, though, and I’m starting to get a real taste of it.

Our collective vibration is rising, and with it is coming an array of physical and metaphysical abilities that we can access. We won’t perfect them overnight, however, and we have to commit to practicing them if we really want to attain them.

According to Hilarion, we’ll only hear segments of Source’s great song while we’re on earth, but if we pursue our reception of it, we eventually won’t need to seek it at all.

“Only fragments of the great song [of life] come to your ears while yet you are but man. But if you listen to it, remember it faithfully, so that none which has reached you is lost, and endeavour to learn from it the meaning of the mystery that surrounds you. In time you will need no teacher. For as the individual has voice, so has that in which the individual exists.” (6)

Hilarion continues, telling us that life’s speech is in no way a cry – it’s actually a beautifully composed song.

“Life itself has speech and is never silent. And its utterance is not, as you that are deaf may suppose, a cry; it is a song. Learn from it that you are part of the harmony; learn from it to obey the laws of harmony.” (7)

Like others have said, we never stand still. We and our reality are constantly moving; constantly expanding or contracting depending on where we’re at in our growth, and attuning to the beautiful energy and sound comprising our existence will open us to this reality and help us see that a constant, divine, musical flow keeps us connected to spirit.

The benefits of connecting with this flow are endless, and if we can open up to it in a real and pure way, which requires dedication and willingness to sacrifice physical pleasures, we’ll feel it in all of its purity and use our resulting abilities to raise the consciousness of the rest of the planet.

In doing so, we’ll actually become the divine forces we’ve heard so much about, and we’ll start changing this planet by pursuing the higher-vibrational energy and inspiration we receive from the other side. I highly recommend pursuing music or sound in any format, and I can attest to its immense benefits.

I’m still getting my voice to the place I want it to be, but I notice that with practice and dedication, getting there becomes easier with each attempt. We have to stay committed if we want to develop our perception of the musical flow, and we have to be willing to open ourselves to the influence of spirit.

If we do, we’ll have the potential to be on a constant higher vibration as we endlessly develop and expand our divine abilities, and as long as we put in the initial hard work, everything will flow from there, easily and smoothly.

We’ll probably continue along this line of discussion next week, because I think it’s been pretty helpful. Some seekers have already attained and are developing their divine, musical flow, while others still seek it and wonder why they aren’t yet there – why the abilities they strive for don’t seem to have flowed to them in as pure of a way as they’d prefer.

We’ll all get there eventually, and if we persevere, we’ll enjoy a far better and more free-flowing existence than we ever did before we made an effort. Our future’s bright, but we have a little bit to do before the light at the end of the tunnel fully illuminates our minds and hearts.
