spiritual centers in the USA

Specifically I'm looking for a place of meditiation somewhere on the east coast... hopefully in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, or North Carolina. Somewhere I can work and stay for anywhere from a week to a few months. I want to find an environment where other people are dedicated to spiritual advancement, meditiation, and enligtenment.I dropped out of society (as much as possible) and have been traveling the USA with little or no money for the past three years. I am willing to work hard, and I really want to find a place where I can focus on my spiritual life for a while. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for me it would be greatly appreciated... if I found a really great place, I'd be willing to travel a bit further.Love- Light_ ONE

  • You couls always try hanging out in either Sedona or Mt Shasta!!!!! ;-)
  • Hiya

Have you ever checked out Robert A Monroe's organisation in Virginia?
http://www.monroeinstitute.org/ They can assist you in teaching you to have Out of the Body Experiences at will. (OOBEs). And whilst there you could check out Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment at Virginia Beach! http://www.edgarcayce.org/

    Just a thought! :-)
  • have you tried the Omega institute? Don't know if they're down in that area, but it's worth the shot googleing it.Not for nothing, but with the way your able to travel like you do..i mean, it seems like you've created the perfect situation for meditation. Your free..no tie downs or anything. You can go where ever you want, whenever you want...just sayin. good luck in your search.
    • I really ought to send them a message. I've been aware of the Omega Institute for a while. They are a little far north for me this time of year, but not far away from where I'm actually located at the moment. I'm hoping to find something further south. But in my searches I've seen more places in the North East than where I've been looking for them. The trouble is money. Most of these places want money for you to visit them. I understand they need to pay to have their place. It's just difficult for someone who has broken from that system, and I don't think spiritual development is something that should be withheld from someone just because they don't have money.

the trick with traveling the way I do, is that I'm constantly in social situations, and spending my time on 'survival' issues... I don't have a consistent space to do the work that I want to do. Really, what I'm looking for in my life right at the moment is a bit more structure, and guidance.

Thank you for taking an interest and your suggestion. I think I'll drop a line to the Omega Institute.

      Love
      • Once a long time ago i was ready to do what you are doing. Then a spiritual friend came along and told me that meditation and finding spiritual development is not something that has to be difficult.Neither does one need to drop out of the system. If it was my path to be a budhist monk in the midlle of nowhere i would off been born there and not in Europe or any where else.I found it better to have a steady place to live and work(just for usual expences)and keep travelling and finding my way in all the spiritual things.Like this you will be more able to focus on your growth than having to be in survival mode all the time, this mode does take away a lot of energy that you could be using in better ways in your spiritual quest.Once you have then atained a level of understanding you still can go travelling around in a mutch mature and more relaxing way.Years ago i took on a part time job that payed good and that gave me plenty of time and money to go on my search.Anyways after a while you should be able to understand that what you are looking for is right inside you and there is no need for looking around anywhere else.Like one saying goed. When looking for inlightment do the dishes, when inlighted do the dishes. One last thing maybe...the system is not the enemy so dropping out is not realy the most importent thing here, important is to navigate the system in a smooth way,be in it but not from it.
  • Here is a really good link that I think will help you. Looks like there is a lot of information and links for what you are looking for. Hope it helps.
