Sunshine- A Sci-Fi movie worth revisiting

Just rented it from Amazon pay per view... and I gotta say their streaming videos look superb even on my old SD tv..

Anyway , I was surprised how little I remembered from my initial viewing, and it was virtually like the first time.

The kind of pure, intelligent sci-fi we rarely see, reminiscent of 2001, minus the mythos.

   I'd actually forgotten the little horror element used to rev up the ending (one that IMO really was unnecessary)  in view of the stakes and challenges already in motion by that point.

     Anyway I loved the heroic spirit of the film, the intelligent-sensitive characters and the unique challenges they faced trying to re-iignite our "dying" sun.  The only actual weapon in the entire story is the manhattan size nuclear payload they're delivering to the sun.

    It's interesting that all the crew members are likable , and dedicated to the task at hand.... it's an inspiring & intelligent story, and an exciting one at that. And visually a feast for the eyes.

   We don't get many sci-fi things like this from Hollywood these days.,,, that don't rely on gunplay, invading aliens, or contrived conflict to sell tickets-popcorn.

    • I totally agree on apocalyptic movies,  I avoid these, as I avoid horror.

      Yet this is a story about hope (and wonder as well)   rather than that .... based-extrapolated from a highly speculative theory of sorts ,,,,,,( the sun has billions of years left, last I heard)

       Hope-bravery and human spirit , something that I find uplifting ... overall it's highly intelligent, as are its crew..... a refreshing change from blockbuster movies and blaster toting aliens.

      Yes it's probably more a guy movie, but it certainly certainly has heart, as well as beauty.

      yeah the actors are nearly all rather cute-pretty-or charismatic appealing..... yet damn smart-contemplative

      But the sun has the lead role

"Agreed Movella...Frankly I have no idea why Farage would use such defeatist words, but I look at his shadow home secretary making an official speech on the topic of deportations and feel assured....That speech was on the 24th Feb, so probably…"

"It’s interesting watching Farage try to play the people pleaser at the expense of Britain’s actual security. He’s putting on an establishment mask but he’s lost touch with reality. If he thinks deportation of illegals is indecent, he’s clearly…"

"I didn't know Farage went to the dark side? Lowe was—and is—pushing for mass deportations, a policy that Farage has dismissed as “beyond the point of reasonableness, of decency, of morality.”

Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe's platform;
Among the policies…"
