  1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
  2. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
  3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
  4. Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
  5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
  6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
  7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
  8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
  9. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
  10. Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

    So why is it such a veiled message that begins with a massive reduction in humanities numbers? If we start from the basis that the resource distribution systems of the world, the division of land and wealth, this is what created the appearances of overpopulation, which is a misconception of the issue the guidestones wish you to avoid, that the world is corrupted at the highest level and this idealistic representation of human culture is no more than the advertisement for a one world government and religion.
    
    So to counter that you remove the ideological basis which hides it's true subtext and inform people instead that they are free to return to a more anarchistic, symbiotic and hermetic existence as soon as they are ready to stop letting the way we divide the planets resources lead to conflict again and again, because that is one way the plan for world wide depopulation can be achieved.

      No real idea what they were thinking.  I imagine that after ascension there will be a smaller population for many folks will go to check out their home planers and such.

      I agree that population is not the problem.  The way we use resources and produce energy and food is the cause of all the destruction of earth.

      The folks who made the guidestones didn´t seem to understand this point...

        I think it is intentional so that people associate the anonymous hand of masonry with a positive idealism, but as I said, it veils their true intent; which is depopulation.
