Hi Krishna Kalki
I know what a Vegan is…..
Veganism is a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products and all other animal-derived ingredients. Many vegans also do not eat foods that are processed using animal products, such as refined white sugar, honey and some wines. Most vegans also avoid the use of all products tested on animals, as well as animal-derived non-food products, such as leather, fur and wool.
Vegan refers to either a person who follows this way of eating, or to the diet itself.
I go to the quayside for the fish market, when the catch comes in. I don’t actually eat huge amounts of sea fish regularly anyway, I prefer rainbow trout and only on certain occasions. I don’t buy my fish from the supermarkets ever.
“Jesus never ate fish”, curious why is this being brought in to the conversation??? None the less….
So with this issue in mind I have done some basic research….
Peter ran a fishing business in Bethsaida. He was named Simon, son of Jonah or John. The Synoptic Gospels all recount how Peter's mother-in-law was healed by Jesus at their home in Capernaum which, coupled with clearly depict Peter as married man. His wife is known in the East as Febronia and her feast is celebrated on June 28. In the Synoptic Gospels, Peter (then Simon) was a fisherman along with his brother Andrew and the sons of Zebedee, James and John. The Gospel of John also depicts Peter fishing, even after the resurrection of Jesus, in the story of the Catch of 153 fish. In Matthew and Mark, Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew to be "fishers of men".
The Sea of Galilee lies on the ancient Via Maris, which linked Egypt with the northern empires. The Greeks, Hasmoneans, and Romans founded flourishing towns and settlements on the land-locked lake including Gadara, Hippos and Tiberias. The first-century historian Flavius Josephus was so impressed by the area that he wrote, "One may call this place the ambition of Nature." Josephus also reported a thriving fishing industry at this time, with 230 boats regularly working in the lake. Archaeologists discovered one such boat, nicknamed the Jesus Boat, in 1986.
Much of the ministry of Jesus occurred on the shores of Lake Galilee. In those days, there was a continuous ribbon development of settlements and villages around the lake and plenty of trade and ferrying by boat. The Synoptic gospels of Mark (1:14–20), Matthew (4:18–22), and Luke (5:1–11) describes how Jesus recruited four of his apostles from the shores of Lake Galilee: the fishermen Simon and his brother Andrew and the brothers John and James. One of Jesus' famous teaching episodes, the Sermon on the Mount, is supposed to have been given on a hill overlooking the lake. Many of his miracles are also said to have occurred here including his walking on water, calming the water and the boat load of fish etc.
Here is the text of Luke 24:41-43 which explicitly says that Jesus asked for food and that he actually ate FISH and HONEY which the disciples gave him:
“He [Jesus] said to them: Do you have any food? And they gave him a piece of BROILED FISH and some HONEY. And HE TOOK IT AND ATE IT in front of them.”
In reference to Peter's occupation before becoming an Apostle, the popes wear the Fisherman's Ring, which bears an image of the saint casting his nets from a fishing boat.
Fish caught commercially include Tristramella simonis and notably Tilapia, locally called "St. Peter’s Fish".
Now dear Krishna Kalki.... I have no intention or desire to get into a major debate over this with you, and as I said before I respect your lifestyle choice, that is of your own free will to decide as it is mine. It does not make me a bad person, nor an idiot or suffering from a mental disorder. I have shown tolerance and understanding of your choices, please consider undertaking the same decision and attitude?
As...That what is being displayed is a confrontational, judgemental bias that is unproductive, which could inevitably hinder growth and tolerance to others.
Fish has flesh .. Meat.
Most fish meat is continamated and mixed ingredients.
Jesus never ate fish and call them the biggest fools who say otherwise....and they will probably be born as fishes in their next life
some say with the face, a soul, a heart, a brain, feelings, animal flesh...................
I see my name is dragged around this site so I guess a bit of response is in order : yep, from vegan point of view meat eaters are sick not only in body but also in mind. overdose of animal protein clogs not onl.y thinking but also healthy body and that is not even considering if someone eats junk food, drinks sodas, anything that is not fresh veggies and fruit. .
heres, where my arguments will no longer be continued in this discussion................Certain someone wrote on my page that (her) animals are killed in humane matter. SAY WHAT~!~ please describe this compassionate killing, which tools are used ? ...........
eating animals for survival is one thing, but mass consumption and killing is another.....................
Go Vegan Baby....................there is no other way
Hey I eat fish, and I’m no idiot Krishna Kalki…..
While I may understand and accept your view on being vegetarian or vegan, to say that kind of comment is not very productive and very judgemental.
This is a comment that I made to Assiya a little while ago when he made an equally unproductive and judgemental statement.
Assiya.... quote: “exactly right.most met eaters suffer from this mental disorder”.
Sorry but......What an arrogant and presumptuous statement to say, I eat a massive amount of varied foods, I love quite a lot of vegan and vegetarian dishes, as some of my friends are of this mind-set. But my meat products are always organic free range straight from source and are humanely killed. I do not buy ‘meat’ from super markets etc.
If I was to say ‘a presumptuous comment’ such as, that someone who took illegal drugs and smoked pot, hash or whatever was suffering from a ‘mental disorder’ and were 'stupid', people may/ would/could quite rightly be offended.
Just because I passionately (as you are for your cause) may not agree with the use of drugs such as these for any reason, for me it is a moral, value and ethical choice that I disagree with this. As it you own personal life style, moral, value and ethical reasoning for becoming a vegetarian or vegan.
It is your own choice and of your own free will, that decision is yours to take.
