Taken literally, we can think of light and dark as the presence or absence of some attribute. But if we define darkness as the absence of light, then what is light but the absence of dark? Is it logical to describe two attributes in this manner? Because it seems to be that the question of “what is dark/light” is never answered.
However, many seem to think that the light and dark represent the presence/absence of something, but what is this something? It is not energy for the dark surely has energy as well—and we are aware of this. Is light/dark the presence/absence of pigmentation? But what is pigmentation but color and color but the transmutation of energy {back at square one!}
And what of “colors” that our vision does not allow us to see? We cannot see all forms of energy—we cannot stand in awe of the beauty of a gamma ray—we are very powerful beings, but lack the ability to see all with our physical eyes. What if the dark isn’t really dark at all? It’s just an energy that we cannot see. What if there is light in the darkness after all—but we were just using the wrong equipment to detect it?
Now of course I have been talking about physical light and dark but what many refer to as “light” and “dark” refers more to value terms. Light is love—yes—but if we go back to our parallel with physical light and dark perhaps dark is just a love we do not have the equipment to detect. (but this time our trouble is with cognitive apparatuses).
Energy is love—The Creator is love—and us as creators are love—but the love is not always unconditionally felt for one another. Is love of oneself—even to the point of narcissism—love? If a father shoots another over the last drink of water for his child—is this an act of love? Once again, it seems to be what “team you are on”. The father and family may see it as a display of love, the financier may see his business transactions as a manifestation of his love for materialism and self—but the victims of the shootings and shady business deals do not see it as such. Conquerors, conquistadors, and Inquisitionists carrying out deeds we deem horrible did so in the name of love.
The energy—the light and the dark and everywhere in between—IS real. It is in your soul, your essence, your being. Our Mother gave us the ability to be here, to work with the energies of the cosmos, to evolve from self-consciousness to God consciousness (a very long and arduous process it seems!) This is also interpreted as a path from dark to light—we always assume to “evolve” to a more useful, higher plane of existence.
Our Mother also teaches the necessity of transmuting materialism—the love of flesh and the physical—into spirituality to experience complete harmony. A harmony within yourself, your body, spirit and soul. To detach from objects and flesh—for it limits your vision—it sets boundaries on your love and where you see love.
Of course, love knows no boundaries we say—and love is all there is, love is all you need. Everything exists because of love—be it a love for something we admire or abhor. So Light…is love...dark...is love, because energy is love and love is all. We just had a slight memory lapse—a malfunction in our cognitive apparatuses, a download we cannot find the directory to.
So does this mean taking another life is ok? That robbing million of people right under their nose is acceptable because it is ultimately done out of some transformation of love? It is not ideal if we wish to experience the evolutionary trend to God consciousness. If we wish to completely lose the desire to please your material needs through meeting the spiritual needs of yourself and others. To postpone and withhold judgment for we realize that light and dark originate from the same source—the only source. So while the aforementioned actions are not indicative of a person currently operating with or aspiring to what we would call God consciousness—it nevertheless is another experience along the path to it. Some paths wind much more than others.
In sum...we cannot label/categorize the dark/light without a reference to a preferential state of being—to a preference, a want, a wish. Not in reference to some quality that is believed to be inherent and constant. Love is not a quality, it is everywhere and it is everything—we just have to detect it. If we chose to move along the path of ascension, we must be cognizant of our own goals, how they shape our values, and how they facilitate or prolong the transmutation of the consummation of flesh and physicality to that of pure spirit that is free of judgment.

What I consider to be dark are those who either forgot where they came from, or choose not to feed directly off of the light. They insist on feeding off of others who feed on light. They are also known as psychic vampires and are the lice of our society. They bring us down and literally steal our life energy, just as a vampire would suck the blood out of someone's neck. They leave us feeling drained and tired and sometimes can even cause you to have a panic attack. To me, dark spirits are those who do not sustain themselves. They tend to live in fear and most feel they need to enslave others in different ways for their own survival.
You can sometimes spot them by the posts they make, picking fights with people and trying to get a reaction out of you or just simply trying to get your attention. Some do it purposely and know exactly what they are doing while others just do it for the "thrill" and don't realize what they are doing on a psychic level. The ones who know what they are doing tend to do the most damage. I have literally felt fangs in my neck before and had one bite me draining my energy, I was afraid to look in the mirror afterwards as it felt so real I could have swore there would be teeth marks. Usually attacks do not come in such a literal form, but my energy was very strong at the time due to my raw superfood diet and stress free life..
Anyway. that is my opinion on the dark, love and light to you sister. :)

"But if we define darkness as the absence of light, then what is light but the absence of dark?" The way I see it is, light has the power to illuminate the darkness, but darkness cannot overpower the light or even cast a shadow on it. Light is much more powerful than darkness.

thank you for sharing your thoughts Hollie. The part that always gets me--and I tried to make this clear(er) in my post--what does light/dark even mean? To say light can "overpower" something means you are giving it some type of attribute, but what is it? And how do we know what we categorize as dark is not really light? (or as Feather Winger says...dark representing the potential for light at rest)
Fantastic post Somesay. It really get to the heart of love. Interesting points it brings up that are outside the box that is of labeling everything as either dark or light. If we are all of the same source, which I believe we are, then labels should not be thrown around so much. Perhaps the actions of others have more significance to our overall spiritual growth than we understand, even if we do deem their actions as dark.. Great analogy about the gamma ray was a good one, and made me ponder. I think we as humans are quick to put everyone into a light or dark box, and maybe that is not the best thing to do, I think there are many variables that we are just not seeing. It is wrong to demonize people because we do not understand the full story about love after all. Thank you for sharing this. It has helped me to broaden my thinking past light and dark. Unconditional love IS unconditional after all, or at least it should be. I sometimes grow weary of the "them vs us" theme that is so prevalent in many new age communities, where people who espouse love and light, but then wish the "evil illuminati" bodily harm and punishment. Is that unconditional love?

But thank you for your comments, and I like that last line you wrote. I honestly don't like to read anything about wishing harm on anyone--no matter if they are "dark cabal" or "criminals". I don't think that's what experiencing God Consciousness is about. But it's all a process right? We are all figuring it out on step at a time. It's just that my higher self is really trying to get me to understand this again as an adult. I did as a child, but then I was "programmed" to believe in a system where not everyone deserves love. And that doesn't sound right to me at all anymore.
