Regardless of what one may feel about the White House and its processes, they did demonstrate a response to the last petition on disclosure, even if it was a petty response.
What is important now is to get the increased media attention. Reaching the required goal isn't necessarily about getting the White House to respond, but about rallying the media exposure that will put greater pressure on the issue.
The next petition has now been posted to challenge that one. Disclosure Petition II - The Rockefeller Initiative is now posted and can be signed at: http://wh.gov/8wh (new link)
This petition has been created to specifically challenge the official response of the first petition. Stephen has told me personally that he has a strategy for doing it the way he is doing it. The focus is going after media attention.
All nations can sign. We need 25,000 signatures ASAP to attract global media attention.
The first petition received more media coverage than all other petitions combined, according to Paradigm Research Group founder and petition-creater, Stephen Bassett.
If all who support this group took a moment to sign, and perhaps recruit one other individual - we could conceivably hit the goal in less than a week, which would definitely catch the attention of media.
Please consider taking a moment to help put some weight behind a topic that I think most of us are really supporting! The potential media response is what will make the effort worthwhile!

@Aaron26 : Well, the way it has worked up to now is that when the required # of signatures is received, it means that the administration has committed to giving an 'official' response, and this response usually appears on this website. Whether it is picked up by the media or not depends upon the level of interest. However, the first petition generated some good media coverage, and the cheesy response giving by one who obviously appeared to be a low-level staffer/researcher brought some more media coverage to the issue. The more the issue can be kept on the front-burner, the more nervous the NLP's (no-longer-powerfuls) will continue to be. ;-)
I think a number of media will be watching this petition with interest. With each official response, it will get harder and harder for them to deny the truth. In reality, I feel disclosure is going to happen soon enough, in a way that's big enough so that nothing can be denied any longer. However, it certainly does help to lend support to any initiative that can bring the issue to the minds of the people. It will help make the eventual disclosure easier to accept, when more and more are at least aware that the world is now talking about it, and sharing it.
The first petition had about 13,000 signatures, + or - . If all those people sign again, and recruit only ONE other supporter, we'll have enough and if it is done within a week, the media will surely be interested in that!

Thank you for checking...you must have looked just before I posted this update.
It seems that they have pulled the petition. They claim it is in violation of their policies. We will have to wait for a clarification from the man who posted the petition. I am thinking that they are a bit scared now. This petition directly challenges their last official response.
I do not know what more I can until more info comes out. I can thank you however, for at least being willing to go and sign it. I apologize that it wasn't there. ;-) However, this may also help the issue of disclosure...so... let's see how this plays out!
