There is the old story of pentecost in Acts 2. People from different regions of the world could understand the words of Peter. The story told of the coming of the holy spirit.
There is a long relation to another story told in the bible. In Genesis 11 we read the story of the tower of Babel. It ended up that language got messed up - people were not able to understand anymore.
From this the story of pentecost makes a deep sense. When the holy spirit came as Acts 2 is trying to tell, people even being separated by different languages begin to understand again.
This is the miracle of pentecost.
Today is pentecost sunday. I wanted to remind of the story behind. Christians celebrate pentecost as birthday of the church.
Actually most has been lost over the millenia. Church has become a midden heap like any other party or club.
But the original thought of the church was the miracle of pentecost - people got the spirit of understanding.
Understanding is the most precious thing humans can experience. Not knowing, not repetition, not working like a machine head and machine heart, but understanding.
Understanding someone is an expression of love. It acknowledges that there is a deep connection. Understanding makes relatives of humans, because understanding reveals common roots and hopes, common bones, flesh and fate.
And by understanding love becomes substancial. The love substance is listening, talking and understanding. This creates a common room, a room of the divine. If you want, a room where God finds expression in a loving kind.
A blessed day to all!
