Ayurveda states that water stored in a copper Vessel becomes purified
Copper Drinking Cup
Yogis and traditional households in India have for thousands of years (and are till today) been utilizing a simple, practical and effective method of drinking water in its most holistic
way- drinking water from a copper cup or a large copper vessel where
water is stored.
Ayurveda recommends storing water in copper vessels. Benefits of copper according to ayurveda:
- Drinking water from copper cups prevents ageing, vaya-sthapak.
- Copper can destroy undesirable virus and bacteria. When copper
dissolves in water, water becomes ionic (electrolyte) as can be
ascertained by its pH measurement. That is the reason the
micro-organisms get killed in such water.

Yogis have revered copper as an ideal container to positively charge water before drinking it. For thousands of years, the yogis would
carry water in their copper pot called 'kamandalam'. In traditional
households in India, copper drinking cups such as the ones offered here
is still used. We now offer these traditional copper drinking cups called in South India

What about storing water in Crystal, or Gold, or Silver... :)
That you can do with no risk at all. :)
"Really, never heard that! interesting, then if you put polluted water in your copper drink?"
Then you will be shortening your life severely. ;)
It is also the main reason for why you MUST have distilled water in an uncoated copper vessel since it will otherwise be quite poisonous. The only reason the lama's can use copper vessels is because they're using water directly from the springs, far away from the cities = quite clean.
If you're in the west and use uncoated copper vessels for your tap-water or other "public" and "open" water source, you will slowly be poisoning yourself instead of aiding your health. ;)
"How would the Rain have any effect?"
Most rainwater on earth is polluted with sulphuric compounds which in turns will convert to copper sulfide in the copper vessel. Copper sulfide is a lethal posion and will eat your body from the inside. To die from it you'll have to drink more than an american ounce of a 10% solution and I know of no person that could possibly swallow that much without puking in cascades, so it's unlikely that you would die from your household ammounts, but still... ;)
"It is more pure than the actual lake or river"
That depends on where you are.
If you're anywhere near an active volcano, you will not be wanting to drink the rainwater within a thousand mile radius of that mountain. ;)
Copper is good for many things.
Just don't use it to make roofs. If you do, all living things in the soil around the house will die.
Copper + Pollution + Rain = Potent Poison ;)

A healthy routine and common practice for all doshas is to fill up a copper cup from a vessel such as this with water at nightand then to drink it first thing in the morning. This washes the GI track,
flushes the kidneys, and stimulates peristalsis. It also purifies the
blood, promotes healthy skin and prevents asthma, as water with traces of
copper in it changes the tendency to attract respiratory problems.
