A master had his students with him allowing them to observe all circumstances around them. The master was known to have been a wise man having been excellent in all kinds of disputations he loved to meet.
Now after a long time the students had their experiences with him, one evening they asked the master to say something they found important.
Master, one started, we know you are wise and have been brilliant in every disputation you were challenged. But we have observed lately, that you have avoided any disputation we came in. You said nothing but smiled. What happened to you?
Well, said the master, first let me say this. If you feel inside an urge to say something while hoping another one will speak a word instead of you, then you are not more than a coward with the mind of misusing others, which is a shameful thing many do owning a gutless mind. And secondly, if I felt the urge to say something, then I would certainly do so, but lately I didn`t, so I chosed to smile instead. Listen, you are certainly not supposed to care for what I choose. If you feel an urge to say something, then do it without waiting for someone you consider wise. And respect also those who remain silent!
And, after a while, the master finally said: we mostly do not know why there is often an urge to say something and often is not. Understand: we are looking to master observation and awareness which is fairly enough. But to understand the mechanics and technics of how all things work - this surely exceeds all our comprehension...
