well there was a time we were making a joke about solar power torches in the 80's as you need sunlight to make the flashlights or torches work now they have solar powered flashlights and now it won't be surprising that we will soon to have solar power laptops, in the world wars they had wind up batteries to run their huge back pack mobile phones.
