A woman with Alzheimer`s desease had once in a while bright moments. Then she was very clear.
In one of these bright times her friend was with her, and the woman asked a question.
Can you say something to me I will not forget, for I forget everything?
Her friend knew he had no big time finding an answer. Each minute she could fall back into forgetting.
No, said the friend, there is nothing I can tell you won`t forget. But listen. I am here, and I am your memory as your friend. In case you forget - I will not. And I will always tell you again.
It took not an hour that the woman asked her friend again who he is.
This is how love works on Alzheimer`s people...

This one really touched my heart. My mother had altzheimers really bad for 14 years before she passed this past November. My father was with her everyday and told her endlessly all their memories that they had shared together. Just to sit with them both talking and holding hands just made me so glad that their love which had spanned 70 years was filled with so many wonderful memories that my dad could keep sharing and sharing again with my mom. It broke my heart when she could no longer remember who my Dad was or myself or my siblings, but was was also so thankful that my mother fell in love with my Dad over and over and over right up till the end. Theirs was a true love, and that is so rare in this day and age and even a devastating illness like alzheimers could not stop the love they had for each other. My dad passed two months after Mom because he just could not live without her, he had cancer but just kept hanging on because he felt he had to be there for my mother always and could not leave her alone. When she passed he gave himself permission to stop pushing himself and he let go knowing that he was going to a better place and that they would be together again. It broke my heart but I smile in my heart because they are together again and for always. I was so fortunate to have had my parents until they were in their mid nineties and I thank God everyday for that.
