As philosopher I was always interested in combining and overlooking long times and appearances. Despite contemporary people mostly consider time as linear occurence, there had been also the idea of circular time.
Linear time is perceiving time like a ruler going from past via today to future. Circular perception is trying to find similar events and happenings taking place at different times considering time like a spiral moving forward.
The religious or metaphysical life in Roman Empire was in my understanding not much different from our contemporary times. The amount of different approaches toward Gods, enlightment and knowledge finding expression in different Gnosis styles, was amazing. Under Augustus there was a long period of peace in the Roman Empire. In saturated societies it is easy to have a developed complex of religious life.
In that time christianity was born. The only important and real opposite philosophical school was without doubt stoicism. But you may look for yourself in case you wish to know more detailed infos on Roman Empire life, there is much material being published with simple access.
Harold Bloom describes the insanity around millenia turns:
Joachim of Fiore had his successor in Hegel, and Thomas of Aquin in Kant. Bruno found his successor in Fichte, and Zarathustra in the 7. century B.C. in Nietzsches stormy new interpretation leading him to the death of God. In those 2000 years after Christ there is literally nothing that was not on the table. Whitehead wrote 100 years a go, that all western philosophy is only footnote to Platon.
All in all it is a hell of insanity, I suppose. And I tell you how it appears to me.
Out of the insanity of uncountable teachers, messiahs and "enlightened" gnostics, now after 2000 years mankind has lost almost completely:
# any metaphysical ground;
# any sense of wondering;
# any moral constitution transcending the contemporary status;
# any sense of building a paradise of freedom, beauty and joy.
But don`t delude yourself! The insanity isn`t over yet!
Now there appear people with a strong ego wanting to fight what I have described above by mainly two branches.
One is traditional christianity. In the middle of the 18 hundreds - it was called "the big awakening" - christian preachers settled the world like cock roaches trying to convince people with miracles and extraordinary epiphanies of what they called "the holy ghost". This is still going on.
The second branch is positive thinking which appeared 100 years ago and unfolded in the new age movement. While christians referred to God almighty, those folks spoke of higher selves and universe and unconscience and later of certain universal laws. They invented new rituals, discovered angels and entities anew (remember, this all was also stuff in Roman times!) and introduced eastern thinking into the west after Schopenhauer planted his seed with his "The world as will and presentation". Of course the Beatles did a great job in this regard back in the 60s and 70s.
Now I came here to this place to learn and read and exchange lots of good things, and nonetheless I call my long journey through millenia insanity. I have not the tiniest intend to intimidate anybody, nor do I want to appear offensive anyhow.
In the 70s and 80s I have many times experienced christians trying to perform incredible things against the mainstream:
# healing persons from cancer in Jesus` name - and failed;
# commanding clouds, wether, rain etc. to disappear in the name of Jesus;
# casting alleged demons out in Jesus` name;
# transmuting amalgam fillings in molars into gold in Jesus` name.
Later I saw people from the new age group trying similar things:
# performing rituals to find the "twin flame";
# telling people they are responsible for their fate (haha, tell that a woman in Palestine having lost all 5 kids by an israeli granate);
# denying to read other stuff than "channelled stuff from enlightened ones";
# clinging to certain guru people like Louise Hay, Doreen Virtue, the Hicks couple, Lee and Kryon (remember Kryon told of pi being no transcendent number which is utter nonsense?);
# attacking people who call for reluctant and reasonable explanation by not excluding material which is there but finds no consideration by whatever reason;
# denying of human fragility, impotence and experience of duality by calling it "old 3D" which needs to be overcome as if our world is not a human home;
# forcing people to have detailed knowledge of certain "sacred geometry", "vibration healing", "affirmation principles" etc. (it`s striking, that there is a real absense of deeper math; Nassim Haramein claims to be a theoretical physisist, but is in fact NOT: http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=9725.0);
# trying to entertain the community by endless words and channellings as if the healing presence of silence is not acknowledged.
Isn`t that all insane? And where do we go with this? Does that people help to heal? Is there such a great urge to those who have conferences or public teachings to earn enough money? Is there not a need felt deep insight to simply listening and giving hugs instead of just words or sometimes only giving 20 bucks that someone can pay his bill? Or going shopping to buy someone a new pair of jeans or whatever? Just being simply - human?
There is so much to give as human, so much apart from money and fancy rituals. And the most precious thing someone can give is time, simply a little time...
But I feel now I need something to eat and have a good cup of coffee.

Tersiusgaudens, you are so your name sake. Why do I find myself agreeing with you, you are correct, nothing has changed really, other than how we explain it, I was just saying this to my girlfriends on the weekend, who of course were upset with me, telling me that the belief has changed and that the new age will be different. Different yes, I said, but the message is just of a cosmic nature, but it means the same as it always did.
Id like an honest answer from you if you dont mind? Is Tersiusgaudens your birth name, and if not, why did you choose this term for yourself. We know what this means in business, but spiritually I want to know what it means to you, as I relate with this definition, so Im intrigued and curious.

Just remember none of those of us who are labelled as dark disinfo agents, ask the "lightworkers" to leave this site because we dont believe what they claim. The lightworkers on the other hand have no problem telling people daily to leave this site because they cannot be strong enough in their beliefs to listen to even the tiniest questioning of what they are claiming without having a freakout. If you read up on cult behaviour and compared what many people here act like to those behaviours you would see many here and all over in many different belief systems are locked into cult mentality.

The facts are that Nassim Haramein is not an acreddited physicyst. He isnt even allowed to post on wikipedia because you are required to be an ACTUAL doctor to post scientific articles there. I really like his work. However it is as he says only a theory. If you do not like people posting thoughts different from yours then I suggest living a life of solitude because no two humans will agree on everything always.
Many people on this Earth right now are NOT selfish or full of ego like you claim. Get off your high horse and come back down to Earth with the rest of us who ARE compassionate and selfless and caring and concerned for others are trying to make this a better place. The Haramein case. I read all papers I had access and discussed it with a theoretical physisist. He does a little math, but the main part is from his partner. We are not here in a toys are us shop where everybody can choose a title like a teddy bear. He calls himself a "theoretical physisist" - without any university reputation. How can he expect being acknowledged from colleagues? Why does he need to call himself "theoretical physisist" - and I know some real ones? Nothing else I wanted to point out. It is an ego thing. For what?

excluding the "negative" words, and "energy" I feel their is a super important message embedded in this little bit of text that at first is hidden to the positive onlooker. . so I ask that it may be what I would like to call "translated" by your mind within your own will-full body. . and read again and try to see past the grit and gravel of something that is so incredibly beautiful. . covered in dirt and "sh!t" and "lowly mindedness". .
