In order to attain spiritual awareness we have to know something that is beyond this world.

I agree that part of enlightenment is when we just learn to BE the light and the love. To be enlightened we must learn the ability to place no stipulations on others for being worthy of our love and love each other and also we need to love and honor ourselves; because we are all parts of the whole. When we as a species can honor each other as complete and vital members of humanity, (such as our toes and body parts are a part of the whole body each with a different and important function) and love each other as an integral part of the wholeness of humanity, to me that is a good step toward's enlightenment.
I am not sure of all enlightment may entail, for me it has always been a big question mark because there are so many viewpoints on this, but what I said is a good start at least.
