Start by sitting in a quiet place with your shoulders squared, yours legs crossed, and your knees bent. Straighten your spine as much as possible while placing your legs comfortably since you will hold this position for at least 10 minutes.
Rest your hands palm side up at the wrist on the tops of your knees. Make an "O," known as the mudra position, with the index finger and the thumb of each individual hand. Focus your closed eyes to the center of your forehead.
Say the syllable "sa" as you touch your right index finger to your right thumb and the left index finger to the left thumb, completing an "O." "Sa" means infinity you should say it with a long, drawn-out, near sing-songy "a" as in the word "father."
Continue in the same manner with the next syllable "ta" as you touch the middle fingers and thumbs of each hand together. This syllable, meaning life, follows the same pronunciation as all the others.
Speak "na" meaning death, in a regular, audibly raised voice as you touch your ring fingers and thumbs together.
End with the syllable "ma," meaning rebirth and touching your pinky fingers and thumbs together. With this syllable, yoga practitioners believe you end a cycle of triggering the life force at the base of the spine.
Speak "sa ta na ma" aloud and touch the respective fingers together for the first 5 minutes. Whisper the chant the next 5 minutes, and then speak it silently while mouthing the syllables the next 10 minutes. Continue in a whisper for another 5 minutes, speak it aloud for another 5. For the final minute, say the chant silently without the hand movements or the mouthing of the syllables.
