 THE TWO SCHOOLS

 

Reality (Li in Chinese) it can be seen suddenly, but matter (Shih in Chinese) must be grown in a progressive and orderly manner.

 

In other words, having reached ecstasy, it must be cultivated until its complete development and maturity.

 

Thus, esoteric work consists of two main aspects, vision and action.

 

To have a vision must climb to the top of the mountain and look from there; to begin the journey must descend to the bottom of the abyss and start walking from there.

 

Although the Zen temple, which is a marvelous form of Mahayana Buddhism, is sustained by the two pillars of the "Vision" and "Action" it is ostensible that puts special emphasis on the first one.

 

This is clearly recognized by the Guruji, I Shan, who said, "Your Vision and not your Action is what matters to me."

 

Therefore the Zen Masters put all the emphasis on Ecstasy, the Samadhi, the Satori, and concentrate all their efforts on directly bring his disciples or chelas to it.

 

Tibetan Hinayana School is different and although his two main columns are also the "Vision" and "Action" is unquestionable that places special solemnity on the latter and fight tirelessly to bring their devotees to the Ninth Sphere (the Sex).

The "Golden Flower" establishes perfect harmonious balance between the "Vision" and "Action".

Archaic ancient traditions say there are two kinds of BUDDHAS:

 

a) Transitory BUDDHAS.

b) Permanent BUDDHAS.

 

It is clear that the first one are in transit from sphere to sphere, struggling to make themselves the Illuminating Void. It is unquestionable that the latter are the Buddhas of Contemplation; those who had already realized within themselves the Illuminating Void.

 

In the esoteric study of Zen (marvelous way of the Mahayana school) there are two very interesting Chinese terms: "Chien" and "Hsing".

 

Used as a verb, Chien means to see, or look; used as a noun it means the view, the Understanding, or observation.

 

Hsing means Practical Action, the esoteric work. It can also be used as a verb or noun.

 

"Chien" in its most intimate sense, it means all mystic understanding of the Buddhist teaching; But in Zen, not only denotes clear and evident understanding of the principles and Truth-Prajna, but also involves the Vision Awake arising from the Experience "Wu" (Satori, Ecstasy, Samadhi).

 

"Chien" in this transcendental and divine sense, can be understood as reality view or a vision of reality. Even if it means seeing reality, it does not imply possession or domain thereof.

 

"Hsing" the fruitful and creative work in the Flaming Forge of Vulcan, is fundamental when is wanted the possession and mastery of the Real.

 MEN AWAKE

 

The awakened monk called Tien Jan went to visit the Venerable Master Hui Chang.

 

Upon arrival, very solemnly he asked some ascetic helper if the "Real Master" was at home. The mystic replied:

Hua Pu himself had to carry the coffin to the North suburb. When he arrived he got into the coffin, always with the stick in his hand, and waited the arrival of some passersby. Then he asked them nailed the coffin once he was dead. When they agreed, he lay down and died.

 

Then (continued telling Chang Chen-Chi), passersby nailed the drawer, as promised.

 

The news of this fact soon came to the city and people began arriving in droves. Someone suggested then to open the coffin to take a look at the body, but in doing so, to their surprise, found nothing.

 

Before recovering from the surprise heard from heaven, the familiar sound of the bells of the staff that Pua Hua had carried all his life.
