Have YouTubers been unable to download YouTube videos for two weeks, or is this a glitch affecting a few? It seems to be the case, that glitches or something else are causing YouTubers to have difficulty downloading videos from the platform using video downloading software. This means that YouTube is now essentially ´for viewing only´. The problem began last year, when 4kVideo Downloader and 5k Video Downloader, two critically important programs designed to enable people to preserve knowledge, lost the ability to paste YouTube links as people began to report an inability to paste said links and then use them to download YouTube videos. Attempts were made to upgrade so people could still paste, but for now, for the past 2 weeks since January 1st, 2025, YouTube has remained stuck in a technological Stone Age. Once trusted by 2,5 billions, YouTube, once the world´s most advanced platform, has degenerated into a state of a mere technosaurus in comparison with Bitchute and Rumble in a matter of weeks, as both websites allow users to copy and paste links which can then be saved to their PCs and laptops. Whether it was a glitch resulting from site overuse, or Google´s, or Youtube´s decision to remove link pasting periodically in the fall of 2025 remains to be seen but one fact is sure, and that is the fact that no YouTuber has confirmed that they are able to download YouTube videos they have uploaded to the site, meaning they will be ´for viewing only´. They can be deleted from the site, but apparently not downloaded as of yet by using any downloader. No outright ban to use a downloading program has been stated, despite it is prohibited to download videos directly from the site. One Redditor has told 4k Video Downloader on Reddit about plans to go elsewhere to a new video saving program, not realizing the grave situation going on. If Youtube is unable to offer people access to copying and pasting links anywhere for some reason, this threatens to push journalism on Youtube into jeopardy. And the journalistic profession will not be the only one eventually forced to leave the platform, if nothing changes. Soon other professions will join, such as notably the printing industry. YouTube´s single most important user base, its musicians, are going to have to look elsewhere if they want to access a robust platform which will allow them to paste links and download their own products. You can paste the link anywhere you want, but you still can´t download it after copying it to paste it. Two weeks later, few are waking up to the scale of the problem being discussed. A public outcry the size of which has never been seen before, seems to be in the making. What January 1, 2025 teaches people is, that this is the reason for why owning physical media is king. Libraries and other public services are going to have to return to a time when the ability to copy and paste links from a site like YouTube remains a future probability, as YouTube did not exist by then. As many YouTubers realized what the future was going to be in these matters, they decided to turn their attention to websites once dismissed as hate platforms to upload everything there, including counter hate arguments, a double win for democracy because these websites support free speech rather than speech meant to bully, harass, threaten or intimidate others. As YouTube descended into a mere primitive state in comparison with Bitchute and Rumble´s ability to allow people to enjoy access to basic online services, what happened was, they have essentially lost the browser wars and YouTube is not in a position to change the outcome of that experience, meaning the customer base will be left distrustful and sceptical concerning the service as its competitors brace for a mass exodus to their platforms with the aim to say goodbye to an era.
