“There are alternatives to eating highly fattening foods and animal protein during the holidays… here are just a few great tasting ideas.”
Most people have turkey or ham during the holidays but there are many great alternatives that are much healthier. In fact there are some great vegan companies that make turkey, beef, fish, and chicken alternative meats that are GMO FREE and very health and high in protein.
In fact some even have stuffed turkeys that are totally animal protein free and look like the real thing… amazing!
Google “Buy Vegan Whole Turkey Online” and lots of places that sell vegan turkey and other products will come up. Also google “Buy Vegan Ham Online” and lots of place that sell vegan ham like products on-line will come up.
With over 7 million people in the US alone that are vegans or vegetarians, and with that number growing exponentially all the time, more companies are creating wonderful animal protein free products for the holidays and everyday use.
So as far as having a protein source for the holidays it’s really not an issue if you’re willing to try something new.
And the side dishes, they too can be much lower in fat and be very healthy.
Take yams which are usually swimming in butter and brown sugar.
What about baking yams in the oven with the skin on and then adding a small amount of yakon syrup or agave nectar later… it’s delicious.
Or you can boil yams and remove the skins, slice them, and bake them in a pan with a little cornstarch and a little water, cinnamon, honey, agave nectar or yakon syrup, and some nuts sprinkled on top… they are wonderful.
Take the cornstarch, water, cinnamon, honey, and other sweetener and combine them in a pan and bring them to boil until thick and pour over the yams… and bake in the oven for 45 minutes at 350 degrees or until nice and golden brown.
And here is my mother’s candied yam recipe that’s wonderful and low in fat… see link to recipe… http://paulhaider.wordpress.com/2013/11/27/candied-yams-a-holiday-t...
And here is a great tasting cranberry rice salad dish that will make your heart sing… see link to recipe. http://paulhaider.wordpress.com/2013/11/21/cranberry-mustard-green-...
Plus if you google “Healthy Holiday Green Bean Casserole Recipes” lots of great tasting recipes that are low in fat and high in nutrients will come up.
And instead of the usual butter laden mashed potatoes try mashed cauliflower which is very low in fat, high in fiber and high in cancer fighting agents. Just google “recipe for low fat healthy mashed cauliflower” and lots of wonderful recipes will come up.
Alsl remember that pumpkin pie has great health benefits… pumpkin contains lots of betacarotene which gives it that great orange color, thus pumpkin pie is filled with lots of wonderful antioxidants that boost your immune system, thus helping to cut your risk of colon, esophagus, stomach and colon cancer, even heart disease, strokes… and other debilitating diseases.
Pumpkin contains lots of Vitamin A, pumpkin contains lots of great fiber that lowers cholesterol and improve movement of digested food through your colon thus helping to prevent colon cancer… and pumpkin pie spices are full of lots of great antioxidants.
So google “Vegan Pumpkin Pie Recipe” lots of wonderful recipes will come up that are full of great nutrition. And some recipes are even raw recipes that are full of live enzymes.
As far as drinks go switch from wine and other alcoholic beverages to fruit and veggie juices which are much healthier.
