The alpha Centauri system is the most next-lying star system, and our direct cosmic neighbour. Only 4.3 light-years are distant from our solar system, and a three-fold star system, consisting of alpha Centauri A, a yellow sun-similar star, and alpha Centauri B a smaller reddish star and Proxima Centauri, a small red Zwerg-Stern. Proxima Centauri lies in the surrounding area. Alpha Centauri is thus a double and/or a three-fold star system, mainly consisting of two suns, which circle around a common emphasis.
