Importance of menstruation

Until recently, I had not had a period for so long. I know too much information, but just keep reading. Losing your cycle can be a scary thing if you factor out pregnancy or disease. A woman's cycle is very important to her health not just physically. All aspects of a woman can be traced to her womb. Women often dread pms or their period, but with its absence it becomes all too clear. Your cycle is indeed more of a blessing than a curse.

I was going through a strange time. I was working many things out on different levels while attending to my daily life. I think that a woman's cycle can be tied to her spiritual development. When your cycle doesn't happen something is wrong with the energy of your body. You aren't releasing stagnant energy from your womb. This could be emotional blockages as well as physical blockages. When there is emotional strain (stress) you may not know it or realize, but your body always reflects what's going on. Every system in your body including your womb tells you what you need to pay attention to. Until you work out those problems, your body will not operate as it should.

It's just my little insight. When we are working on ourselves, we should not forget what the physical body tells us. Often our body let's us know what it needs. I wasn't too alarm when my period went missing and assumed it will return when I balance myself again. Sure enough, when I started confronting my withheld negativity and change my way of thinking it returned. In life, we can easily get caught in a tangle web of misery which vibrates from inside us to all parts of us. These kinds of things should be treated with the same care as a disease of a physical source. The disease in the mind can be very powerful enough to develop into actual symptoms. Listen to the whole of your being, it will tell you what you need and what you should do.

  • thank you for this wondeful insight. I have recently been in the hospital for bipolar disorde and abuse by whom I thought was a male friend. Sure enough, this cycle didn't come. I was dx with anemia and that might have some to do with it, but being in a negative relationship with a male must have thrown my cycle off. A womans' cycle is definitely a gift. I am practicing meditation for the negativity in this past relationship. Also, the lithium I take can cause early meonopause. However, I'm only a few years off before my cycle becomes irregular.  Thanks.
  • Stagnant energy is one part. We also must understand that each journey is personal; no two are alike. I wouldn't write off physical diseases as only stemming from distorted energies though long term disruption in the energy of our being can really mess things up. Emotional turmoil can cause us to react quite negatively, we don't eat well during stress, we don't sleep well, etc...When one aspect is out of sync the whole of the body will eventually suffer. Will disease result from this disruption? Possibly. Can there be other factors? Yes. After factoring out influences such as a physical source, we begin to look towards other ways the disease can come about. Even the diseases that have genetic factors, our minds can do a lot for the healing process. You have to treat the entirety of the patient. I'm saying that the emotional and spiritual side usually gets ignored while the physical symptoms are being treated. You would be surprise to find out how many negative things you can eliminate and how lighter you would feel. Men can do more to talk about their problems as well. It's by balancing the feminine and masculine. When I say feminine and masculine I don't mean just out societal roles as females and males. Feminine as in the sensitive, receptive, nurturing, indirect....while the masculine is direct, etc...Problems are problems and if we only take them as weaknesses then they indeed become weaknesses. They should be discussed.

  • I'm currently reading a book on the spiritual aspects of menstruation, and personally, I'm not quite convinced.  I guess it can be used to help a person come to terms with their issues with their body, and perhaps it has some spiritual uses.  But everytime I have one, I keep thinking it's the last thing I want to endure.  It's not as painful as it used to be, but it still isn't fun.  I don't enjoy the exhaustion and everything else that goes with it.  During such times, I'm not interested in getting spiritual with it, I just want it gone.  I also don't think I have to like it.  Vomiting is a natural occurrence but you don't see anyone saying we need to like it, or look for underlying spiritual meanings and such.  Also in light of the fact that other primates experience menstruation, the idea of it being a special chick thing will goes down quite a few notches.
  • Greetings Mevyn,

    What a very interesting post.

I  have  not had a physical cycle in the last 8 years due to hysterectomy. However i still get physical symptoms from the physical cycle but it makes me feel as if i still connect.

I found it very hard to come to terms with as i was only 30 but for health reasons it was best( been having problems from the age of 8).

I started to work on my spiritual womb and have found that it helped me sooo much i teach my students male and female about their womb space healing.

Thanks once again for your post.

    Adonai,

  • Good point to make, Mevyn.  I've met young women who weren't really aware of their bodies in a spiritual way, who resented their bodies because of all the aches, pains and suffering they went through... I know women who hate being women because of their menstrual agony.

I think you are right, it is about balance within, and without.
